Yes, Uship was intended to be an electronic broker.  If you use the site that way you can use the site to get in touch with Owner/operators.

Instead, the brokers poach the Uship listings.  This could mean that you really end up paying two brokers.  One payment to Uship for their electronic broker site as well as pay the other broker for their live brokerage service.  And, that live broker is just going to do for you what the electronic broker site should be able to do for you anyway.

As stated above, my trip that I show in the linked thread went from $751 via broker on Uship (2 brokers) to just $330 or $300 from the owner/operator found on Uship alone.

Also, Margie mentions getting spam calls from the postings.  On 6 shipments via Uship I have not once gotten a live phone call trying to get business from me.  Never during, before or after.  Actually, uShip trys to protect itself by not letting you speak with the suitors directly.  They can only be spoken to via uShip chat.  It is not until you accept a shipper that uShp releases your private information.  uShip does this to make it harder to contact the shipper directly which could lead to you doing the deal outside uShip which results in uShip making no commission.

To the OP:
even though you've made contact with a broker, that does not stop you from still doing a uSihp posting for the same load.  Try it and see if the uShip site can bring you to a better price than the broker.  You've got nothing to loose and only saving to be had.

Try these additional Uship tips.

  • give exact address of where the car is located and where it needs to go.  I seem to remember that the Uship default is that it just gives the zip code of the sites.  The goal here is to be as real and genuine as possible.  The drivers will want to know if it is a difficult place to pick up or drop off from with a big rig.
  • I state that my car can be picked up as soon as today and as late as 2 weeks from now.  This makes you a combination of "ready to go" and "willing to wait".  The ready to go is important for guys coming through today who have an empty spot.  They may be facing "no money" and be willing to take your "small money" instead if you are a sure thing.  The 2 week is for the drivers planning out a route for maybe next week.
  • I list that the car can be pick up or delivered between 7am and 11pm with 1 hours notice.  Drivers hate loads that require they wait 8 hours for the owner to get home from work.

Contact me directly is you want:    ...jwelsh02...yahoo...

Great info. Thanks. I noticed that the configurator put the Spitfire at over 3000lbs. I put a note about that (1750lbs)

How soon?

I think the sale will be done by the first of next week. No real rush on the transport.  Syosset NY  to Hickory Valley TN

I just realized that this car is located on Long Island, NY.  This means that you are seeking a trucker willing to travel through the worst of NYC.  This will make it very hard to attract a shipper and certainly hard to attract a cheap shipper.

Here is an "out of the box" suggestion:
Buy your seller a AAA Platinum Membership.  That will run you about $150.  But with that top tier membership you get typically 4 or 5 services per year.  All tows can be up to 100 miles and 1 tow can be 200 miles!  Do you have a friend somewhere between Allentown, PA and Harrisburg, PA?  If yes, have the car towed to the friend.

$150 for 200 miles (or even just 150 miles) is $1 per mile (or less) and that is DAMN CHEAP for a tow out of NYC.  Then, from the PA locations you will have a much easier time of attracting a shipper "passing through" and willing to take your car to Tenn.

Clarification: the AAA member has to be at the car with his AAA card when the car is picked up.  This is the reason that you have to buy the AAA membership in the name of the seller.

No, you can not "daisy chain" the car via AAA.  Do not expect that they will first tow it 200 miles then come get the same car for 100  miles.  Then again for another 100 miles.  Etc.  They will flag the car, member for the first tow.  Also, the card holder needs to be there with the car at every pick up.

Another thing, the car will need to be wearing a non-expired license plate when AAA picks up the car.  That could be a problem if the car has no plate.  Do you have a valid spare plate, even from TN,  that you could send the seller?   The AAA driver just needs a plate number to put on his form and then he has to answer if it is not expired.  This expiration is usually denoted by a sticker on the plate.  If TN has these stickers, just remove it.  Do not expect that a driver in NYC has the ability to verify that a TN plate is unexpired as long as the plate itself does not clearly state it is expired.

I've chatted with Montway and TempusLogistics (both are on Uship) and they both say they will pick it up, but not at a residence because-semi rig. There is a Home Depot 5 mins. away that could be used. Edit: All of the responses on Uship have been brokers.
