Here's a good band people always forget about:
Prong, they have a new album, groovy as E36 M3, every bit as good as cleansing.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K-27g2cau0k
While that track doesn't do much for me, it's good to see they're still at it. What Prong was doing in the early 90's was pretty revolutionary, IMHO.
I'm just listening to Tony MacAlpine's "new" (it's from 2011) albums - if one likes a bit of 80s/90s instrumental shredding, I'd highly recommend it.
I'll report back on the new Kamelot album tomorrow .
Highly recommended if you like prog/symphonic metal.

Love The Proselyte, amazing live band plus they're local for me. Check out their sister band Phantom Glue (guitarist's other project).

Thanks for the recommendation!!! Good stuff.
Also, I hate to sound like a broken record, but if you're a metal fan and don't own the Probot record, buy it today!!! One of my favorite tracks with Lee Dorrian (Napalm Death/Cathedral) on vocals and Kim Thayil on guitar:

I'm a big supporter of local bands. Here are some from my neck of the woods.
Frozen (progressive metal). Vocalist reminds me of Huey Lewis & the News at times.

Morne (sludge/doom)

Acaro (metalcore) On tour with KSE & Shadows Fall

Elder (epic stoner doom)

Black Pyramid (sludge/stoner metal)

Speaking of metal, I just bought my ticket to see Testament.
It's tough to say who puts on a more entertaining show. One one hand you have Chuck Billy with his wicked air guitar skill, on the other you have Bobby Blitz who is one energetic old guy.
I'm still up in the air on this tour. Off to see Gojira, Devin Townsend Project, & The Atlas Moth the night before.
If things work out as planned, I'll actually see Testament twice on this tour.
And Poop, one day I'll get Probot. You sold me on it. I just need to get it.
In reply to Grizz:
I believe it's a full US tour. GO!!! Odd lineup but all 3 are amazing live acts.

In reply to MA$$hole:
I like all three of the bands, and they'll be in Balmer Feb 7th. Definitely something I'll have to try to swing.
If I don't go to Testament when they come up this way, I'm afraid Chuck Billy will come to my house and steal my lunch money.
I've seen them twice and Overkill once. Both bands are great live acts.
And +1 for Ihsahn. He is the man. The album After is one of my favorite albums of the past decade.

MA$$hole and I went out on Saturday night to see some local MA Metalcore bands (you know, like Killswitch Engage, Shadows Fall, etc.), and I was introduced to the band Give Zombies the Vote. Not only do they have a great name, but they are pretty good to boot. They remind me a lot of the band The Absence, which is an awesome band in their own right.
And the singer has a cat named Bill Murray, and here's a video of him drunk singing their song Black Hole to him!

Our Google ad program must be working. I'm currently seeing an ad for Rage Against the Machine's rereleased debut album at the top of this page.

Nice!!! I still love the Carcass album Heartwork. That album was way ahead of it's time, and still in my rotation.
I remember back in the day (like 1995ish) my friend got it on CD, and on the way home from the store where he got that and the EP Tools of the Trade, we made his mom toss it in the CD player of her Saab 9000 Turbo. We were blown away. We were especially blown away that his mom didn't hate it! She was a jazz musician, and she tolerated much of the metal we would listen to.
She was also the 1st person to teach me how to drive stick in her Saabs. Stalling out repeatedly and reaching for the CONSOLE to start the car again melted my brain.

I have an ad for a buick. Not sure I understand that; I don't want a minivan, and I don't live in China

Lotta really good bands there.
Speaking of Opeth, a guy I know met Mikael Akerfeldt.
