Spitfire vs. ME-109.
Well, that's kind of a general question. You mean ALL Spitfires and ALL 109's?
They are both essential point defense fighters. They kind of moved around as far as armament and visibility. Pretty sure the 109 was easier to build (the Spitfire wing is apparently a bit of bitch construction wise). Both had pretty goofy gears and were not easy to land.
The Spitfire is probably a bit prettier, but the 109 a bit meaner. The 109 is also a bit smaller, maybe "sportier" looking.
A slight edge probably goes to the Spitfire for it's later iterations, which was very much helped by it engines (Merlin and Griffon).
Which one would I take into a fight? The FW190

Anything like what? I can't think of anything about their music that was ground breaking.
If you can't hear it, then I probably can't explain it to you. A lot of it was what Eddy was doing, but I can't think of another band in 1977 that sounded anything like that.

Manual transmission in a Jeep. Should I or shouldn't I?
No. Automatics work better off road than manual transmissions. I'm actually considering swapping the 5 speed in the Samurai to a automatic 4 speed.
Better torque control, less abusive to the drive line, better slow speed control. Just better.
You couldn't be more wrong; automatics are for towing or those who just don't know how to drive.
There.
Now say somethin'.
I say fooey on automatics
I tried an auto-tragic off road in my buddy's Cherokee. I couldn't stand the damn thing. When trying to "run the gear" downhill it felt like I was in either neutral or a "high" gear. Aside from that I thought it had awful slow speed / gear control (it just wanted to run up through the gears).
My Toyota 5-spd though was a dream (same day same place). I could rely less on the brakes when running down slippery steep grades and keep it in a lower gear for "crawling". I will say that starting on a steep, slippery, incline was more difficult with the manual (slight rollback) but you could usually get around that by working the park brake.

You are only right if you're a pantie waist that drives around on smooth graded dirt. Some of us actually know what off road means.
The only time a automatic is preferred for towing is when the driver sucks at backing a trailer. Being able to use all the engines power, at any RPM, is much better for long distance towing.
Anything else you care to be wrong about today.
I wuz riding and driving rough nasty ungraded dirt back when the only drink you knew was milk. Gimme a man's choice of gearing and power delivery any old time.
Anything else YOU care to be wrong about today?
The standard argument of the old and feeble. You probably walked, up hill, in both directions to school to. I bet you even had to build your one crib. Sniff, sniff. Somewhere there it a tiny violin playing a sad, sad song just for you.
I know technology is hard on you old farts, but that's OK. We'll be happy to help you guide your manual walker.
Hey, at least I'll be able to operate a manual walker, unlike many carjackers recently. Or you punk kids.

I'd go F8F Bearcat. Reportedly, an F8F and a Mustang had a dogfight challenge. The looser bough beer. They started side by side. The Bearcat took off, and turned (or looped, depending on who told the story) inside the P-51 before the Mustang got its wheels up.
