For the past couple months, I've been running a bit of an experiment. I've responded to pretty much every ad or FB spam site with a "block all from sender". Since Facebook is nosey and wants to know why, it always asks for a reason. I've responded to all with the reason "irrelevant". Every once and a while I search something and get peppered with ads for anything even marginally related. I dutifully mark them all as irrelevant, even the ones that are actually sort of interesting. This practice seems to have thoroughly confused FB, and I think it's getting desperate to find out what I'm actually into, because today I started getting ads/spam for what appear to be the personal/hype sites for various Bollywood Actors.

I did the very same thing, but got bored with it before I had any noticeable changes. Maybe if we all do it, it can be like the reddit short situation and we'll all get rich...
I once managed to get an ad for a suture practice kit.
Not sure how that happened, or how to get it to happen again.
Facebook once showed me a set of group recommendations so baffling I had to take a screen shot. I don't speak Hindi or the other non-English languages that appear, for the record.
My best guess is that GLaDOS had temporarily taken over Facebook and was trying to get my wife to murder me.

I've done that (although, I randomize the "irrelevant" selection) so much I don't see ads anymore. But, over the last month I've been been getting "spammed" with "suggested for you" posts, instead... which I suspect are "paid for reach" posts (I.e. ads 2.0). ymmv.

I've noticed that too. Especially weird posts recommending various FaceBook "Groups". It appears to be a new concerted push.

I've done it enough times to google that they now think I can read chinese.
I keep getting weird suggested groups for cars I don't see myself owning..

I LOVE to confuse facebook. When they start getting dialed in my interests I will go do a bunch of random searches on some different search sites. I'll search for things like "liquifying horses with microwaves" or "how to drink sand tutorial"
That at least gets me something fun to look at for a while.
