Where are the cameras? How many of you are in on this? Is Ashton Kutcher hiding somewhere? This can't be real.

This is only moderately dumber than the Million Dollar Homepage, but it's like tearing that old wound open and dumping a fistful of salt in it.
I just read earlier today about some Swede who is making $4M a year from YouTube ads. He apparently records himself playing video games while talking about the game.
I'm glad for the kid who can strike it big, but at the same time a bit embarrassed at how close society is coming to the version depicted in the movie Idiocracy.
I think I'm gonna go into business making only stupid and/or lazy-ass apps. The last two hot new apps have been a messenger that only lets you say "Yo" and yet another "cave flyer" game which is one of the earliest, simplest and most done-to-death types of games. I figure I should make my first million within a month.

If its the League of Legends player that I am thinking of he is actually kind of cool. Also smart as a whip.
I actually have a good idea for a game but the inability to make it happen. Who wants to start an app company with me?
We live in a world of tools which can vastly improve the speed, quality and level of our communication. And we use that power to make our communication worse....bravo.
It is kinda amazing what YouTube and crowd funding platforms have done. It kinda reminds me of the dot com bubble. Lots of younger people are making a lot of money off of it but you kinda wonder when it will bust due to stupid ideas like this or straight up scams (look up Terry Allison watches with Kickstarter).
A friend of a friend started doing a fashion series in high school on Youtube which has turned into a job with a big name fashion magazine and an apartment in New York and Paris.
Or maybe it is just a change in the way business is done.

You would have to watch one. It's not just watching someone play a game, it's the presentation. I watched one of these done by a guy that was quite entertaining. His reactions and comments where pretty funny.
Think of it kind of like Mystery Science Theater. Or maybe a witty guy doing a running commentary over a Barret Jackson auction. It's not the base content that is the entertaining part.
I am sure I have never watched anything from the guy you are referencing, but my guess is he does it in a very entertaining way. Knowing the game would likely make it more entertaining of course, much like knowing the cars would make a running commentary on a BJ auction better.

I wonder how much the Rooster Teeth guys have made due to Red vs Blue which is the same type of thing.

Rooster Teeth makes machinima, which is just like making a cartoon minus the animation effort.
I remember in their early days I made a script to bypass the "security" on their site and download all their episodes, I figured I wasn't really costing them anything...turns out they were hosting the site on a PC on a home connection at the time so I felt pretty bad about that.
He had to move to San Francisco to launch the business.
Apparently they are smarter than us in Israel.
