10 gauges + 6 dash plaques = Poseur.

My definition of a tribute is something that is based, maybe loosely, on the original. Otherwise it would be recreation or clone or.... It looks a lot like Titus's car, IMO. The fact that it has a different engine doesn't really bother me, because I don't think it was intended to be an identical copy of his car. But whatever.
A Tribute generally tries to emulate the original. The original Titus car was a production shell with a 305. This car is a tube-framed, 496 big-block car. It would be like slapping a fiberglass 70 Mustang body on a new NASCAR and calling it a Parnelli Jones tribute.
When you see a Tribute band called Lead Zeppelin, you would expect them to emulate Led Zeppelin, not Dr. Dre. See the difference? Although I do agree with you that the car is freaking cool as ice.
racinginc215 wrote: It was a cool video. fun to watch and I think the Porsche driver was a little intimidated by the Pontiac. The Porsche probably cost more to replace. and the Pontiac was being driven pretty aggressively. Then I had to read the rest of the thread and that killed it for me. is there an Ignore button for this self righteous shiny happy person? I'm really tired his shtick. Must be small man complex with the I ALWAYS have to be right at any cost thing. it's tiring.
Wow, who pissed in your cheerios? I'm sorry calling a tube-frame, big-block car not a Trans Am ruined your day.

Except between Led Zep and Dr. Dre, the older one rocked eleventy bajillion times harder than the newer one.

Like I said I can't take the shtick of your pompous little man I have to be right attitude even when the fact you present are wrong and I'm talking about EVERY thread you post in. Yes I'll be banned Tom has already made the threat. do I care? not really. Are your a C U N T yes you are. did I get around the filter probably.
Lighten up, Francis.
best t/a ever?
that thing sounded so amazing. Don't care that it had a 496 in it (actually I'm glad it had a 496 instead of 305) lol
Yeah, Jav can be a bit officious at times and that is annoying in an otherwise light-hearted thread about a big V8 muscle car chasing down a big flat-6 Porsche. Just ignore it, we all do.
I'm going back to watch the video now. That T/A looks pretty miserable to drive, slow in the corners and fast on the straights. The 935 is pretty similar, except you have huge turbo lag and you absolutely cannot lift mid-corner! :)
If I remember correctly Roger told me several years ago that he was required to put the bigger wheelwell flares on it for some reason, can't remember why. When he first built the car it was very close in appearance to the original Titus car. He's done well in the past couple seasons races. I like this pic of Rogers car.
There's another similar car in the USA, and info about it can be found here. http://yanquetanque.com/Home_Page.php

Yeah, I saw a picture today somewhere. His car did have smaller flares in the picture that looked pretty much like the Titus car.
bravenrace wrote: In reply to Javelin: I guess that's your definition.
It's actually the SCCA's definition
I totally agree with you that this car is berkelying awesome though! That last pic posted of it with the fireball is I wonder what the Euro Vintage rules are?
In reply to Javelin: No, no, no. A Tribute emulates an Escape. Why a car company would choose to do such a thing is beyond me.

LOL! You sir, win a cookie!
Thanks, Mistanfo, for adding some much needed levity to the situation.
All others (javelin, racinginc) should take a walk and relax. While know-it-all attitudes can be trying, the response was way over the top and can't be tolerated. Hopefully we'll all take a deep breath and come back with a level head.
If I weren't using my phone I'd hotlink a "simmer down" image.

Yeah, I think what a lot of people forget about old race cars is that they don't go immediately to the "classic" car market. They get updated as classes change, and the various owners want to run up front. Take for example, the old Group 44 GT6 that the gang from our favorite mags wrote up in Classic Motorsports. Original:

More evidence? Here's one of the original Porsche 933s (built for SCCA D Production) at the end of its long racing life. Notice it's been continually updated, and was running in GT-3 before the owner/s finally decided it was too old.

Things that are awesome about this video:
Twin_Cam wrote: Things that are awesome about this video: 1. You can hear the turbo (which sounds like it's from a shipping container barge) spool up on the Porsche over the noise of the T/A 2. That guy having cojones the size of cantaloupes to drive that car like that 3. The noise of that thing's engine drowns out the noise of a dog box, not the quietest transmission design ever 4. It has a 4-speed gearbox...but probably with 1 gear, it would still be fast as hell, it appears to have just a slight amount of torque 5. THAT SOUND
No, not at all, IMO. I also love the sound of a flat 6. Hell, I liked the sound of the engine in the '68 VW bug I had years ago. But I like the roar of the pontiac also.
The Pontiac was pretty cool, but the outright speed of the Porsche and how scary it looked to drive was completely
Maroon92 wrote: is it insane that I am partial to the sound of a flat 6 turbo?
It's more insane that you could hear it over the "ROARRRRRRRRRRRRRRR" of the world's loudest V8, not to mention wind and tire noise.
And seriously, cantaloupes. He must have a separate racing harness for them, probably makes moving his legs to shift a little difficult, too.
