How I spent my time today (and tomorrow)
From today:
From a previous time:
Tomorrow, I expect to join a friend in his recently acquired boat which is a Yankee. Unlike these boat shown in the picture which are 15 ft , the Yankee is 27ft long. More sail area and more speed. He told me last time he had it out his gps was reading 68 miles per hour.
That's pretty darn fast in a vehicle with no brakes!
Dumb question but will it float if it the ice comes apart?
It is wood with steel runners (skates) , but no not really float.
Very cool, take along a video camera tomorrow if possible.
We have a 38 foot Hudson River Schooner stuffed in the attic of one of the barns at the sailing club. After making a series of home made ice boats using sail boat rigging, I broke down and bought a Skimmer 45, a nice little one man that you steer with your feet; that leaves one hand free for hanging on!

In the 1930s the design went from the "T" up front to moving it to the back. Look for a boat called a Manta (I think) that you could replace the skate blades with tires, go terrorize a Wal-Mart parking lot.

On Sunday I took a couple of crappy cell phone pictures, then club member Al Freeman showed up with a camera that he said was about $7k for the lense and $4k for the camera. I put my phone away.

I spent most of my day helping "Hustler" get set up. This guy has owned it for 3 years after breaking his similar boat. The fact is that yesterday was the first time that Hustler had been on the ice in 25 years (first built in 1969.) To make it even cooler, the owner brought Hustler down in his 1971 Chevy pickup in matching Hugger Orange.
Hustler, "Italian Ice" and my buddy's burgandy boat are all similar in size.
No video, sorry. We never got out the two seater burgundy boat and I was just too busy to film while in other boats.

Those look like a lot of fun, but I thought this was going to be a thread about:
That 'Italian Ice" is badass. Winch located on the cowl, high aspect sail...too cool. If I could stand the weather I would so be into this...
153 mph. Imagine this with less friction.
