I was surfing around the interwebs and came across a picture of a car that I've never seen before. It's not that unusual, but being a "car guy", I'm usually pretty good at identifying strange vehicles. Not this time, but the car did intrigue me. Really nice lines, smaller size and quite attractive IMO. So, off I go to research my latest find. I hate doing this because I end up going down a rabbit hole that just wastes hours and hours of free time.

Much like my obsession with the Anglia 105E, which I will have one day before I die, this one just made the list.

Let's see how quickly it gets properly identified. I seem to remember the record is something like 2 minutes. There is seriously something wrong with this group.

Looks like a British Ford, or maybe an Opel or Holden...

Ah, the 1962 Ford Consul Capri if I am not mistaken.

Wow, that is a very European take on US 1958-1964 automotive styling.

The tail end of the car in the photo appears to have been customized somewhat.

Agreed, I don't think the grille is stock. These are one of the favourites of the rockabilly car crowd in the UK and it's thus pretty hard to find one that hasn't been at least modified a little.

They're pretty rare as is as they rusted out badly even by the standards of the decade they were made in, so there are not many left. Plus they didn't sell that many in the first place, at least not in the UK.

No question the side profile was drawn by the dude that drew the Volvo 1800.

Classic Motorsport did a good article on them not long ago. As to Streetwise coment about the profile, I think it was a blatant copy, not a same designer.

I thought at first it was a coachbuilt 1800 modification!

There was an extremely low production (prototype, maybe) 1900 I was going to google at first.

I thought it was the front of a different car at first.

Looking at the front end, you can see where the Ford Capri Mk I/II/III got its styling direction.

A Rare Ford Consul Capri Shows Off Its American Side

"The new Capri, which took its distinctive styling cues from Dearborn’s Galaxie Sunliner, arrived as a two-door coupe with elegant, sculptured lines, a low, pillarless roof and quad headlights."   A minor correction...the Sunliner was a convertible.  The article should have said Starliner, specifically the 1960 model.

I actually saw one of these Consul Capris at the Woodward Dream Cruise years back. Had to chat up the owner, had never heard of it prior. Beautiful car in person.
