I recently visited the Petersen museum to take in their new Porsche exhibit. It was wonderful. As I was leaving, I noticed them loading up an interesting looking car in an enclosed transport. I managed to snap a single photo before it disappeared. What car is this?
Holy crap, it's actually the same car. Same plates.
Nice. You don't see one of those every day.

3 minutes from the time the question is posed until it's answered with corresponding pics is pretty impressive. Nicely done Mr Thompson!
Its from Ohio, interesting.
That last picture... Totally looks like a flying saucer.

Just imagine what it looked like if you saw it on the streets of Ohio back in 1954, you would probably think it was a flying saucer!
Nice! Ive never even heard of that car!
I've read that the designer put over 100,000 miles on that car.
more cars should have the fuel filler cap on the roof

I'm not sure I understand the scale of that car...
Is it much smaller than it looks? I have a feeling the width and roundness makes it look a lot bigger than it is.

Those are really small brake lights or that is a ginormous fuel filler cap. I don't think the car overall is very big, look at the relative size of the car and the spare tire under the rear glass.

That's because there's only one of them.
It has a Chrysler Hemi engine, by the way.

Here's a period photo of the car with Mr. Bosley standing next to it for scale.
Here are some pics I took of the actual car on a basement tour of the Peterson museum in LA. this was June 14

How does one manage this treat?
What a phenomenal looking vehicle.

I think you can do it through the museum. But I went as part of a Ford exec tour organized by Bruce Meyer who is on the board of the museum. We then went to his private shop and got to see all his personal toys.
I understand it had a ginormous gas tank to go with that cap. Like 40 or more gallons. The designer and owner didn't want his long drives interrupted

Which?
A 331ci engine, which would have been out of a 1951 - 1955 Chrysler.
In reply to Adrian_Thompson :
If you go as part of the regular basement tour they tell you you can't take pics. At least that was the case when we went about 5 years ago. Probably a good idea as I'd have a bunch of photos stored on a phone I no longer use!
