but I could be wrong.
"The Hollywood sequel machine is reportedly working on a new Bullitt movie, a continuation of the 1968 Steve McQueen detective thriller. Now, Steven Spielberg, who helmed blockbusters like Jaws, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial and Saving Private Ryan, is reportedly attached to direct it."
Hard to really argue with this:
"If it weren't for the scenes of shrieking V8s jumping through San Francisco's hilly streets, the movie would be utterly forgettable."
So... in all honesty, there is probably room for a remake. And even if they do a similar car chase with actual cars, filming technology has improved to the point where they could do better.
So long as nick cage isn't in it I'll be OK.
Bullitt was a E36 M3ty movie with an awesome car chase.
In the original, I like how, while the Mustang and Charger are racing around SF, there is the same VW bug in every scene. That must be the fastest VW in the world.
I am going to go with a big "why" on this one.
Unless they go with an almost non-stop, ALL practical effects, car chase movie, I don't see a point.
No reason why you couldn't make a great cop movie, but there's no reason to build off of Bullet for that. Just being a Speilburg movie will get it more draw than a movie that is only known by car buffs.
If Speilburg is taking this on as some sort of challenge of how car chases should have always been shot, then I say I am interested.
Perhaps this is a bookend to his first movie, Duel...
I watched Bullett once. It wasn't a good movie.
the only way to stop this garbage is to stop paying them to see it.
I ould like to see someone make a good car chase movie though. I'm even working on the screenplay.
It cant be any worse than the original

They did. Its called Fury Road.

I think you're thinking of Baby Driver, covered in previous threads.
They should just do a long version of the "Hire" Hopefully they will use the proper transmission for this film.
I'm in for a Bullet/Fast and Furious crossover.

Baby Driver was like Bullitt in that it had one awesome car chase, but they let it out of the gate in the first scene. I did enjoy the rest of the movie.

Granted, it's just an SNL skit, not exactly feature length, but this clearly shows Nick Cage's phenomenal acting skills:

It could star Jason Statham instead...

Didn't it already though, 3 times?
Well I just hope our resident stunt driver jfryjfry is part of the project.

I would be all in for that.

Fingers crossed! I'd love to. And bonus would be to help shape and design the car stuff.
it's still early (I don't believe there is even a script at this point) so who knows yet

Coming this summer, the ghosts of Steve McQueen and Paul Walker in Fast and Furious 12: Mars Rover Race Wars.
With Doms family in shambles, he uses technology to bring back this best friend on Mars, where an evil rover AI is determined to destroy the Cidonia region, and with it humanities last chance save face in front of the intergalactic motor racing academy.
I have no problem with remakes, reboots, updates, interpretations, whatever. How many songs have been seen in a completely new light after another artist provided their interpretation of it? Why are we so precious with movies that we can't allow other artists to give their take on a classic narrative? How many times have the works of Shakespeare been reinterpreted, and yet no one seems to mind that very much.
Oddly enough, no one seems to have this opinion when it come to "Heat," or "The Thing," or "The Maltese Falcon."
If the guy who made Jaws wants to take a crack at Bullitt—a movie that a few have already pointed out was kind of crappy overall—let him take his shot. It'll either be good or it won't. Maybe it'll take a flawed original and turn it into something that we'll remember for more than just an amazing car chase.

Another big thing I like to point out is that movies are really expensive to make. So to make any new movies an easier sell, producers and directors will often pitch an idea that's based on something that's already successful–and in this case, it's a movie that a bunch of seem to like.
Good or bad, I'll probably still have a good time watching it.
Let's just hope they only wreck new cars, not classics.

Was there a script for the original? Just following the predecessor
And nobody has yet speculated on who's going to play McQueen's character yet... Interesting.
