I've got a fair variety at my disposal already - and let me tell you, the super-high-performance rough riding setups get left at home after the initial excitement has worn off.
My dream DD would involve no work on my part to build or maintain. Save that for the fun toy cars. It would have a reasonably capacious trunk that I wasn't afraid to put car parts in, because I find myself hauling stuff to and from work. It would have a good HVAC system, be reasonably quiet and sport ridiculous lights for the dark portion of my drive. I don't need an ear-bleeding stereo, just one that will provide whatever audio I want at the time whether it be sourced from my iPod or a satellite in the sky. Good visibility and reasonably quiet.
You know what? My 2010 Dodge 2500 does a pretty good job of meeting all these criteria. Sad, isn't it. It's better than the E39 M5 because I'm not afraid to throw random things in the back, although I have to say I enjoy the BMW more.
Now, if we're building dream cars, that's different. Maybe a 911 GT3 RS 4.0, with a class 1 Baja buggy for playtime.

Truthfully, if money were no object, I wouldn't have just one daily driver. I'd be like Leno and have a fleet of different cars ranging from bone-stock to wildly modified. What I drove each day would depend on the weather, my mood and what I may also have to do during the day.
Citroen DS. Quirky, yet supposedly quite pleasant to drive. Not a perfect example, but everything should work as well as it needs to. Should you be a CEO, your underlings will probably detest you a little bit less than if your daily's logo featured a bull or bucking pony.
I'll only comment that there is no such thing as waste when you have unlimited money. Well, there is, but the unlimited part means you don't have to care. That's the appeal of the fantasy.

This.
I want a prepped Baja-style truck with a fiberglass body and long travel suspension.
Any year BMW M5 for date nights.
40's Ford with a "Moon-shiner" look.
Tan civic for blending in and good mpg's.

That's me. Although I think a Lotus Evora might make a pretty nice 'most of the time' car.
I'd like my Miata just about as is, with the addition of some better seats and a V6 from the current Mustang.
Super rich means I'm not worried about filling the tank. 69ish Charger with a 500+ cube hemi mated to a modern 6spd and mild gears. Decent seats, decent stereo, AC and ps. Modern suspension so it can corner as well as rewind the horizon. Fuel injected ITB's built to rev out to 7 or 8k rpms.
Brutal? check.
Dream? check.
Someone said wake me up in the morning and excited to leave in the evening? check.
Makes love to your ears every time you drop the throttle? I would think so.
I'm with the OP, I would love an Art Deco styled ride with modern technology. If you do win the lottery, build me one minus the hybrid system. I'd take a new 5.0 with a S/C or a LSA.

I've said it before. Last year Olds Aurora. Carbon slipper and small tasteful (real aerodynamics) spoiler. Racing style buckets, redone interior, in the theme of the Audi TT baseball glove. A bit overdone as far as 'plush' goes, like a Bentley, lots of very comfy leather and four real seats. The Aurora V8 from the Indy program (You can still buy them pretty cheaply) and a 6 speed stick shift. The suspension/frame would probably be from Art Morrison. A BMW M5, but good looking and really fancy-smancy on the inside.
Every. Day.
This. All day, every day.
The cost would not be in buying it but the making of the parts and personally i would gladly do it!!
Dream DD? Dream bigger, folks!
Probably this for daily use.

I don't know if I'd say it's "thread ending" but it's definitely interesting. I'm surprised it hasn't been replicated in kit form.

Nerd! (I have watched Voyager at least 3 times cover to cover, so to speak. Also, the shuttle they develop in the later seasons was cooler.)
If we can drive what we want... A MD500 wouldn't hurt my feelings, be able to land in a parking lot as well, instead of a city block!

Yeah, I'll take the Delta Flyer with a side of Seven of Nine.
But seriously....
or...
With this for a "winter beater"...
I'll keep it to those, because I know I could fill a page of "daily drivers" depending on the daily task.
