i took my mom, neice, and 2 nefews to do something totaly different then dealing with cars that they normally deal with. it was fun and very cool to see some really old things from around the country.
edit...i forgot to post the link to the album though...sigh...here it is.

Thats the place way out southwest of Woodstock, right? I've been there more than a few times, the last when I was about 12. Always worth the trip; you've just reminded me of one of my favorite places in Illinois. I just decided, I am taking the girlfriend on a date there next summer .
Its in Union.
I'm just sad they don't have a running steam engine. The last time I was there, (1989?) they had a running 3 truck Shay. Thrashing to beat hell at 7 mph.

"exterminate Exterminate! EXTERMINATE!"
If you are heading to Union take the country road that leads you there from Rt 47. It is a hugely entertaining twisty country road, and way, way more entertaining than getting there via Rt 20. (sorry forgot the name of the road)
You're probably talking about Frohling Road. Its about as twisty as we get out here.
It's been forever since I was out that way.

Album link didn't work for me. Need more pics of this ^^^
Reminds me of one of my favs - good old NW 611
Have you been to the one down in Monticello, IL? Not as big, but very nice regardless.
If you're ever over on the East-central side of the state, I'll see if I can get permission to take you through the abandoned roundhouse in our town. Oh, and we have a nice small RR museum too, no live trains though, but a bunch of C & E I history, and a really nice HO layout.
I usually go for the Transportation Extravaganza. It's a great time. I have only been on the Nebraska Zephyr once and it was awesome. If anyone wants to see it in all it's glory, watch the beginning of "A League of Their Own".
I enjoy riding the trolleys, daily transportation from a period of time I never lived in.
Needs more steam! Dang shame they don't have the cash to get some of those old monsters running again.
Nice pix, though. Thanks for sharing!
