I recently messaged a guy back and forth for over an hour about a set of wheels I'm trying to sell before he finally says "oh I just found out my truck is a different bolt pattern". I was standing in the garage waiting for him to show up because he said he was on his way with money.
This is why I just throw that stuff in the trash. It's not worth the hassle of dealing with the average dumb ass that is going to respond.
It's kind of sad. You know there is some hard working guy that really needs it, but you can't get in touch with him because the signal to noise ratio is unbelievable.

Wheels are the worst thing I've ever sold on craigslist. I once had a guy try to return a set after I told him they wouldn't fit his car before he purchased them. 5x5 f150 wheels do not bolt onto a stock 85 foxbody. Stupidity hurts and I was tired of arguing so I sold them too him.
I end up holding on to WAY too much stuff just because dealing with morons in the past has jaded me so much. I've got some great Mustang sheetmetal in the garage that I have ZERO use for, but trying to sell it to anyone other than you guys is just painful.

Yup. I've never owned a Mustang, but I saved a bunch of sheetmetal from going to the crusher when my buddy had to move in a hurry. I tried to sell the stuff a few times but holy crap the stupid questions poured in. My ads were half disclaimer by the time I gave up. No I don't have the rest of the car, if I did I'd keep the parts. No I won't ship it, it says local pickup only in the ad. No it won't fit your (insert completely different year) Mustang. No I don't want any guns, the ad says no trades, cash only.
I've been tempted to throw it all on my trailer and head up to Atlanta Dragway for their swap meet. I'll find someone with a trailer heading in and just throw my stuff on it when they aren't looking.
I see it as an opportunity to go all Dexter. Thin the herd a bit and the rest of us will thank you.
(Kidding, don't anyone actually do this)
Let's not forget the other side of this: Trying to navigate thru ads written by the same morons. My favorite is when people fail to provide the most basic info, like: What model is it? What engine is in it? Auto or manual?
I just had a email discussion with some kind of assistant at a dealership, which had a Boxster for sale. After some back and forth, I was ready to drive 2h to look at it, but asked for a few extra pics of the interior first. Lucky I did.
Me: Hang on! In the last pic you sent, I can see that the car is an automatic! Your ads says it is a 6speed manual.
Her: It's a manual.
Me: The car you just took a picture of isn't. You can see the auto shifter in the picture.
Her: I checked with my manager. It's a 5 speed.
Me: A 5 speed automatic? That's not what I'm looking for. You should really correct your ad, or some people will be very disappointed when they show up to look at the car.
Her: It's a manual.
Me: Your ad says it is a 6 speed manual. You just said it is a 5 speed manual. The picture clearly show a car with an automatic gearbox. You have either taken pictures of the wrong car, or your statements in both the email and the ad is wrong.
Her: What's the problem? I've told you what transmission is in the car and I sent you the pictures you asked for. You just have to come and look at the car if you have any more questions.
Me: Good luck with sales.
Side note: If you can't bother to A. check what ads says before answering a customer and B. write a complete and polite sentence to a customer, you do not deserve to own a healthy business.
I once was a selling a Datsun 210 with no motor. Clearly spelled out in the ad with photos of the empty engine bay. I had an amazing number of people who could not understand why I recommended not driving it home 
On the flip side I’ve been able to pick up some amazing deals because I was the only person to read and understand an ad. People have answered my emails because I’ve asked simple, clear and relevant questions. I got a free 1964 MGB because I was the first person to put together a coherent email.

over the weekend my buddy Jay and I put a GMPP cat-back on his 2017 Sierra that has about 13k miles on it. I asked what he's gonna do with the old exhaust, since it's 3" stainless and basically brand new. "berkeley it, it goes to the curb. i'm not selling it to some dickhole who's gonna call back pissed because it didn't bolt on to his S10."
I had a guy yry to sue me for selling him a lemon. He sighned paperwork, which was notarized, saying that it needed an engine. The ad, stated it needed an engine. The bill of sale stated it needed an engine.
He drove it 3 months before it kicked the knocking rod. Then tried to sue. Over a 500 car.
I just had this exchange a few days ago
CL ad said. "I have a Suzuki Swift GTI drivetrain for sale"
I respond with "Any idea of the mileage? Is it an automatic or manual?"
seller says. No transmission, Those are hard to find. I have to pull the head off the motor to see if it needs to be rebuilt, I will rebuild it and keep it if it does. I have 3 Swift GTIs but they are not for sale"
"OK so you don't have the drivetrain and the engine you do have may or may not be for sale depending on how far you take it apart?"
"yes, $450 if it is good when I take it all apart"

Just learned it also works with bicycle parts. Since I'm home with sciatic nerve issues I decided too list some old rear hubs. The pictures clearly show just some crusty old hubs, with brand and spoke count listed. The first 3 Facebook messages asked what kind of rims they had. I'm just going too throw them in the damn scrap pile at this point.
