I got a new job in Mooresville, NC and am moving there in the next couple weeks.
My wife and I don't know much about the area so if anyone lives around there, any advice would be appreciated- things like areas to avoid, best school districts, the best areas to look for a house, etc. I will need to get temporary housing until our house in Illinois sells, so we have a little time before a decision needs to be made.

We are very excited to be relocating to Mooresville. It looks like a great place to raise our sons and the winters should be better than Chicago... and maybe i'll be able to make it to the $200x Challenge one of theses days since I will be so much closer.

Talk to AngryCorvair and savestheday. Both are in Charlotte, among others, but should be able to help you out.

I'm not there enough to help you though.

There's a lot of racing history in Mooresville. Mostly roundy-round stuff but a lot of cool stuff nonetheless.

Circle track and drag racing are the easiest to find, but if you look hard enough, you will find plenty of road racing. It's just not all at the surface.

Mooresville is a nice area. I have no experience with the schools though. Most people that live there commute to Charlotte, so traffic on I-77 can get bad. If you live and work there you are way ahead of the game. I think with the economy, you may get a decent deal on housing. Stuff near Lake Norman is $$$$.

Just got back from a weekend in Davidson which is just down 77 (or 115) from Mooresville. Area has been built up a great deal since I spent 4.5 years there 20 years ago... Still a gorgeous area and the people are so fricken nice! There are some gorgeous homes with larger lots and freestanding garages to be had so look around for the perfect GRM house that fits. If you are a boater, Lake Norman is a nice place for it. A couple of good marinas and some decent sailboat racing if you're into that sort of thing.

The best thing about Mooresville? The all you can eat buffet at Fat Boy's BBQ. Wife and I went directly there after landing in Charlotte and it was SOOO worth it. Glad I don't live close as I would add a few pounds just driving by this place.

My husband and I recently purchased a Matco Tools Franchise. We are from MA, but he is living in Mooresville right now, starting his territory in Concord and Charlotte. My daughter and I will move down after the school year and when our house sells. We visited in April and really liked the area, it has alot to offer. We found a furnished house to rent by searching craigslist and it is nice b/c it is a month to month lease right on Lake Norman. You can see my posts about the area by looking on city-data.com - go to the Charlotte forum and search for the thread Moving to Mooresville. If you want to get in touch w/my husband you can PM me from there. Good luck!
