That said, I dont think Xbox/PC is alone in this garbage.  Switch controllers seem to be flaky as hell sometimes.

Weird that y'all have had those problems. I just tested it and my robot white (I think I have something like 15-20 controllers) paired right up to my laptop - and that's been the one designated for it since I bought wreck fest. Maybe I got lucky.

Ya the only issue I ever ran into using an Xbox Bluetooth controller in the last 10 years was my PS2 emulator wanting special settings.  Everything else has worked great pretty much every time, Windows 7 and Windows 10 at least.

Confirmed no blue teeth on my motherboard.

The boss is knowledgable on this kind of stuff and suggested an 8BitDo controller, though I am having trouble figuring out their product line. The Ultimate 2.4G wireless controller is available locally so I may end up snagging one tomorrow. It comes with the wireless adapter and apparently works in wired mode as well. Could be handy for using the same controller on different machines.

In reply to DarkMonohue :

You can easily add Bluetooth to your computer with a USB Bluetooth adapter for $10-$20, it's worth it.

My Xbox One Bluetooth controller has been rock-solid, although they may need a firmware update out of the box (mine did) and I hear Microsoft is now forcing people to have a Microsoft online account to do that...

Edit: I probably have the software to do it saved on my gaming PC.

I will say my steam controller with its Bluetooth adapter works every time without issue.  The problem is it's a steam controller.

If I could be guaranteed the 8bitdo stuff was rock solid reliable I'd ditch the Xbox controllers and snag some of those.

no issues since the update though... *knocks on wood*

On a not controller related note, we are planning on doing some L4D gaming nights so if anyone in this thread is interested, come join us in the Discord.

Oh good to hear.  I snagged that for free from Epic last week and have heard others say good things as well.

On the 8Bitdo controllers...

I have two of them: A SN30 Pro and an Ultimate with the charging dock. I have used the SN30 Pro with my PC, phone, and the Switch via Bluetooth, and I've definitely used it via USB with the PC. The Ultimate has only gotten used with the Switch, but I believe it will do the same thing. Both controllers are rock solid, responsive, and work well for what I use them for. The SN30 Pro is shaped like a SNES controller with two analog sticks on the bottom, and the Ultimate is really their take on the Nintendo Pro Controller but with better build quality and more flexibility. While I like the SN30 Pro a lot for the aesthetics and similarity to the OG SNES controllers, I do wish I got the Pro 2 with the Playstation-like wings. YMMV here, obviously. I really want to pick up a Sega Genesis 6-button or Saturn controller next.

I also recommend the Xbox One controllers on PC, even if a BT adapter is needed. Most games on PC have the Xbox controllers in mind for gamepad mode, so it's really the easy button. I have both the regular XB1 and the 2nd revision of the Pro controllers, and they are both great.

In reply to Tony Sestito :

Thanks for the input. I'm going to borrow one or two from the boss and see what works.

In the meantime, I dug out an old and very cheesy aftermarket (Nyko) thrift store PS3 controller and got it working after a thorough cleaning and fixing the sort of crap that comes from manufacturing something as cheaply as possible. It tests good on the PC as long as I run Logitech Profiler before starting a game, which is cool, but now Little Monohue is hounding me to play Pikuniku as soon as I walk in the door...
