Old laptop is dead, new to me Xbox 360 has taken over game duties, and I need a better internet device than my iphone. For just better web browsing, will a chrome book be the right device?

If you are using it for web browsing, yes, a chromebook is awesome.
I've used mine for some light word processing and photo editing, but it is absolutely useless if it is away from a WiFi connection.
I like it, and it was a great price.
I think Maroon92 covered it. A Chromebook is just like a full laptop with Chrome on it in terms of web browsing.
Loving my Acer C720. For $200 for a couch-surfing device, it's nearly impossible to beat. Boots in seconds, battery lasts 8+ hours and has a real keyboard. I've been using a tablet for this purpose the last couple of years, and the Chromebook is much better. You can do a bit of light "work" on it if need be, but it's not really made for that.
Looks like I'm sold, I will likely pick one up in a few weeks. I'm leaning towards the silver Samsung.
Besides, I've been considering something along these lines for some time, as a 17" is not easiest to carry around and use in bed.
FWIW, I have this one - http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-XE303C12-A01US-Chromebook-Wi-Fi-11-6-Inch/dp/B009LL9VDG
Wanted the samsung, but it was out of stock so I went with the acer C720. I like it so far, and it was $50 less.
Seconded. I have a CR48. Computers are great, but sometimes you want them to get out of the way so you can just get things done. The iPad does this, but you lose the good keyboard and trackpad. I think of Chromebooks as the less-than-computer doohicky that actually supports getting things done.
Let me just throw out that I just picked up a new windows 8.1 8" tablet for $200. I checked out chromebooks and cheap netbooks first, but wanted to be able to run tunerstudio (chromebook can't) on it and the netbook keyboards sucked while being less portable than the tablet. Worth a gander, I'd say.
Can chrome books handle iTunes? My past 2 laptops (granted, fairly old ones) brick when iTunes is installed.

We're talking about laptops here, right?
Are there actual laptops running android yet? Or is the closest thing the Asus eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeepad Transformer still?
Um, why not just run TS on a laptop?
BTW, Lenovo, HP and others make multi-mode laptops that run android or windows depending on which way they boot.
