Okay, an apology for hijacking the thread, and talking too much. Here's the old CBS "48 Hours" newsmagazine show's visit to LeMans, 1988.

The rest of it should be availible there, just click around a little bit.

I sure wish I'd bought this book when it was new...I didn't have the $70, and now that it's out of print, it's flirting with $200. Grrr.

IIRC, it was the IMSA season points rules that caused stuff like that. Some kind of "percentage" rule..if you weren't in the car long enough, you didn't get points for being the co-driver. Yeah, that stuff worked at Daytona/Sebring (again, IIRC double points races back then), but when the race is only 3hrs long, it was a little silly. Even back then, they were trying to pull on the fame of Le Mans to sell Prototype sportscar racing in the US, I guess they thought it would sell more tickets if there were driver changes.

That makes sense. I used to wonder if turning right caused bladder problems. Thanks for posting these, I used to love when TNN would run these on sunday afternoons.

Rusty, a corner worker? Doesn't sound like the Atlanta Region F&C I was a member of..

oh ya it was a corner worker, turn 1 corner worker, girl, big girl...

Hmm. I guess the world really has changed. Do we blame this on the insurance companies, or the lawyers?

And I thought the ALMS' catch phrase was "For the Fans". I mean, during the race is one thing..I used to threaten people on a "hot" track too, but on a clear course? At a victory celebration?

I liked the analysis of the Ford Mustang Probe that they did early on in the video. They called its construction methods "the wave of the future" and they were right! Composite chassis bonded to their bodies--way less horsepower is needed to drive a much lighter (and stiffer) car faster. And I don't know if these were carbon fiber yet or not, but isn't that what they are all made of now?

It was a cool video. I like watching old videos like that. I wish it had commercials!

I just realized that all of my comments related to the Road Atlanta video and not the OP's video. I guess I'll watch Sebring now!

ROFL! Weirdest/coolest thing I ever got on a Camel GT weekend was a keychain. It was a big (2"?) round one filled with water, and a little plastic "pack" of Camel cigs in the middle. It had five or six little plastic "cigarettes" (complete with little brown filters at one end) that you were supposed to shake out, and then shake back in. It was like those little plastic maze games for kids where you had to roll the BBs around. I can't find it, and I can't find a pic online...which probably means it's worth $50 on ebay...

They also had a crew of Camel Girls walking around the infield handing out free smokes. Yeah, I know I'm dumb for still smoking, but I sure miss tobacco advertising at races...

People tried some wild BMW E36 during the GTP era. There was even a Camel Lights Lola with a plastic motor:
