When I had my 2004 R6, when I turned 25 my full coverage went from $95/month to $11/months. This was like 2007 though.

For the '18 Mazda 3 and the '23 BRZ, we pay $1800/year for both with uninsured driver coverage.....lot of that in Oklahoma.

But in reality, comparing auto/motorcycle insurance rates is completely pointless. Age, driving record, credit score, where you live, where you work, miles driven per year, is it parked outside at an apartment complex, is it parked in a garage, do you have it bundled with other coverage, what kind of car it is, etc.

All those impact your score and many insurers have specific risk profiles they want to insure and that also helps determine the price.

Because poor.

Or you live in Florida...

This is like the #3 reason we are trying to GTFO of this state ASAP. I live with my GF in her 900 sqft, mid-60s, block style house. Her homeowners insurance has gone up like 300% in the 3 years she has lived here. She has had zero claims in that time. Luckily, we escaped any damage from the last two hurricanes. But we are both done with this place. It's getting beyond ridiculous.

Let me drag this back up to the top for possible closure.

From the top:

Homeowners insurance will not renew because of debris on my property.  No pointing to anything specific, just debris.

I ask for clarification and start cleaning property up because I do have things to get rid of, but most of them are not in the aerial view pictures supplied by the underwriters of the insurance company.  Clean up commences and a truck load of junk from inside the house, outside the house and around the house goes to the dump.  My agent also tells me "let me know when you are ready and we will send someone over to take pictures".

A weekend later I call to have pictures taken.  The guy that would take pictures is not available at this time.  I will have to take my own pictures and I am told to go to the four corners of my property, take pictures facing the house and send them to a specified phone number.   I call my wife who is home and tell her to please take the pictures and send them to the number.  She replies that it might be better if I wait until I get home to take the pictures.  I tell her no, it will be dark.  Please take the pictures and send them to the phone number.  She replies that she will take the pictures and send them to me for approval.  I tell her I don't need to approve the pictures, please just take the pictures and send them to the phone number.  My wife agrees to this.  And she sends me the pictures anyway.  I delete the pictures off my phone.  This part should be done.

And about a week later I haven't heard anything from the insurance company.  I call the insurance company.  The insurance company never received the pictures.  *sigh*  I call my wife and have her send the pictures I deleted off my phone back to me so I can send them to the insurance company.  And the picture phone tag begins.

The underwriters state that since I have a storage container on my property it needs to have a lock on it.  The leaning structures on my property have to go because of possible danger.  There is a car in the driveway that hasn't moved in x-months (the eclipse I tried to give away) and needs to go. And I need to take more pictures of the back yard.

Right.  I find a padlock for the container and take a picture.  I don't ask why the container needs a lock but my shed doesn't.  I take 8 pictures of my back yard from various angles and send them off to the insurance company.

Which brings us to yesterday (1/20/2024)  if you are still following along.  It is snowing a lot for Maryland and I go to work anyway because that is what I do.  The insurance company states that they have problems with items in two of the pictures and sends me the the two pictures with the problems.  One picture has my wood racks that lean and the other picture shows my container and the insurance company wants to know what is next to the container.  I use MS Paint to point to various things and add tags so the insurance company knows what the items are because I don't know just what the problem is.   1st pointer, these are my blackberry vines.  2nd pointer, this is a big bucket.  3rd pointer, this is a wood rack with no wood on it.  Then I go outside with a cordless saw to dismantle the leaning firewood racks to make the insurance company happy.  And I take pictures of the now lack of leaning wood racks.

Oh look!  I received a new email from the company.  You are saying those leaning structures are for storing firewood?  I reply, not anymore.  I have dismantled them with an electric circular saw while standing in the snow and the parts are in the back of my truck to go to the dump.  They are removed.  Gone.  History.

I also receive a third picture to identify something in my yard.  It seems the company sent me the wrong picture to identify things.  So I identify the object of their query.  That is my Bobcat skid-steer for moving my bulk firewood and it is under a tarp to protect it from the weather.

And now my refusal to re-new has been rescinded.  I will receive notification in the mail to reflect this.  Victory is mine?  I don't feel victorious.   Just hassled.   At least this saga might be over.  I will not call it over until I get the written statement that makes it so.

On another note, while this was going on I was getting quotes from other insurance companies on-line as a back up plan.  One of those companies refused to issue a quote because I am too close to the coast.  I am about 100 miles from the Atlantic coast, maybe that company means the Chesapeake Bay which I am about 4 miles away from.  What ever.

I was expecting them to have big issues with you burning wood.

At least you got a notice, and a chance to discuss.

Hope it works out!

Your story sort of reminds me of the guy that keeps asking the same girl out, and she keeps coming up with more and more ridiculous excuses....

Congrats on figuring it out though.

Reading this part I was fully expecting the insurance company to say that they never got the pictures because they were waiting for pictures *from your phone number.* It's hard enough for these big dumb bureaucracies to work when everything is done perfectly to spec with all the I's dotted and T's crossed, if you do something unexpected they're sure to fail...

And just when I thought this was over.

It seems in all the excitement my insurance forgot to take payment out of my escrow account, because today I received a notice that my payment is past due.

More phone calls. *sigh*

Update!  Just got off the computer with my lender and the lender states that the insurance was paid Jan 26th 2024.  It will be quite the interesting phone call I make tomorrow.

In reply to Noddaz :

You should go with a different insurance company. Call back the current insurance, and make sure everything is to their satisfaction. Then promptly cancel your insurance.

I will have to find a replacement.  I live near the Chesapeake Bay and it seems there are companies that will not write a policy for my location.

And a BTW, the money from my escrow was pulled from the account on January 26th, but was not posted to the home policy until February 5th.

The insurance company held the payment for 5 business days.

The insurance company held the funds through the end of the month, when interest is likely to have been paid upon it. Do that over many customers, and there is probably a non-trivial bit of income generated.
