Wifey and I, in our POS Sentra, getting within a half block of our house. Four teens from the high school down the street, were walking IN THE MIDDLE OF MY LANE, staring at me, not moving out of the way. I'm only going about 15mph, but did not slow down. Well, until I was about three feet from them, then screeching of tires. They were furious that I almost hit them, and got madder because I was laughing hysterically. Yelled, cursed, slapped the side of the car. Saddest part is that they will soon reproduce, creating more of the same. Wonder what would have happened if one of our local rednecks with a big pickup had come across this group. Probably a great belch of diesel smoke. Heehee.
That's why I drive a POS full size station wagon. ![](/media/img/icons/smilies/evil-18.png)
I read a study once that said most times when a pedestrian is hit by a car it is the pedestrians fault. Yet here in Atlanta (arguably one of the most pedestrian UNfriendly cities in America) the driver drives off. The police find them and they are convicted of hit and run or vehicular hommicide. In the rare instance the driver states on scene there is no repercussion towards them legally. I don't know the civil results.
Oh the memories of the children scrambling as the floor of my P71 greeted the petal with an astounding roar of the engine...
similar age group here. two kids riding their bikes backwards down the middle of the street towards me... w/o a berkeleyin' clue. I completely stopped about 60' in front of their path and waited, damn they woulda run into me if not for the third kid behind 'em who warned 'em. they spouted some smartass E36 M3, I know better than to say even a word. they're back out again tonite at dusk riding backwards, I may just sit on the porch, drink a beer n wait for the crash or hear the 911 call on the scanner. that would complete my day
They tend to get out of the way of the Trooper pretty quick. I guess it's the drooling wild eyed guy visible through the windshield. ![](/media/img/icons/smilies/wink-18.png)

I made a thug jump for the curb on my way home once. He was walking down the middle of the right lane on Mountain Industrial. I was a good quarter mile off and honked my horn thinking he didn't see me. He flipped me off so I floored it (I was in my Lincoln Mark VII with Flows and side pipes). Mister "I'm so tough I walk in the street" held his ground for a second then dove for the curb pretty quickly. Now I just go around these idiots but it seems to be some sort of ghetto "I'm tough" thing to do. ol.

I agree that it is a ghetto thing, trying to get The Man to give way. Sometime it doesn't work. I'm actually looking forward to the next time. Little Sentra can still make some high pitched noise in lower gears.
As an aside - I was in a courtroom for a hit & run case as an observer (iirc it had to do with a law class in college or something, anyways) and the driver totally wallopped the guy. Driver ran the red light (to turn right) as a guy was stepping into the walk in his lane. Mowed him right over into unconsciousness. Ambulance came, guy recovers, is now testifying in legal court. Defense attorney is slicker than a used car salesman and gets the dude off. How?
He asked the victim if he ever saw the truck. No. Did you get the plate? No. Was there a 73 Chevy grill indent in your head? No. Did anybody else see anything? No. Well if nobody saw it, how can you be sure it was this guy that hit you? How are you sure his light was red? How can you be sure the crosswalk signal was on?
Case was over, dude walked, declared innocent and can't be tried again.
Moral of the story: Make sure you knock em out and there's no witnesses.
hehe... I Have an old car alarm horn that I keep thinking about hooking up to the s10 when its done for just such occasions... also from what I hear i've got a semi truck horn set waiting for me (have to dig it out of my memas garage)... requires an air tank to use... figure it could be fun :)
and I think yes it happens most often in the "hood"... seen it all to often delivering pizza... but run into it in nicer neighborhoods with younger teen/pre-teen kids...
kids in my neighborhood are pretty good about getting out of the way

I've had little E36 M3bags walk right walk right out in front of me with that "whatcha gonna do yo!" body language. I've been saying I'm going to get one of these locomotive horn set ups:
and make them E36 M3 their pants
only I won't just blip it, I'll be standing on it. ![](/media/img/icons/smilies/evil-18.png)
they do it here too.. at night.. while wearing all black or dark colours. I have barely missed a few of them

I'm in the security biz, I can get really good, loud, sirens for less than 20.00. Gee, maybe I should put two or three of those on my most innocent little Sentra. Ah, why yes, I think I shall.

That doesn't seem very grassroots. ![](/media/img/icons/smilies/crazy-18.png)
The kids in my neighborhood (some as young as 5yrs old) are starting to jump in front of "nice" cars. Are their parents using them for lawsuit bait?
I'm actually thinking of firing up the GoPro for driving on the street, so that I'll have some evidence if it should happen that one of the little bastards receives the Darwin Award they so well deserve.

As a video guy, I am intrigued by the GoPro stuff. It is really good, and would give really good video evidence for any bull E36 M3 activities by low life creatures. I want one, and I don't qualify for a discount.
Your Sentra needs a train whistle horn. Make them jump and watch their egos deflate.

Doubt it would pick up their voices, but beware your state's wire tapping/audio privacy laws.

Good point, but I thought wiretapping & other privacy laws were mostly covering private communications, and not public activity in the street.
Still, considering that the whole country has gone nuts in the last 30yrs., what you said has a great deal of merit. ![](/media/img/icons/smilies/laugh-18.png)
