Hell, I carry a battery pack for my phone pretty much anywhere I go if I'm outside the house or the office.

I have a cell phone that can't make a call for more than five minutes before the battery dies, and a charging port in the car that requires the engine to be running to work. What else do I need?
Seriously.... I GET why cigarette lighter type ports are ignition-only, but it's damned inconvenient when you're on the side of the road and trying to charge your phone because you've been on hold for ten minutes and the car is screaming at you to start the engine or turn the key off because battery voltage is low. There's buttons for eveything and everything is controlled by electronic modules instead of switches, why not a button to turn on the "accessory port" with the key off?
We don't do "ACC" anymore? I know the ND Miatas still do it (hit the Start button without depressing the clutch).
I think they do, most just don't know about it. I know with a Subaru, if you hold the start button down (no foot on brake, not sure if it works with) it will go into some sort of Acc mode (so you can see the dash). There also seems to be two modes.
Very interesting information everyone, thanks for sharing! I wonder if electrics will have a "share" function someday? Like if I am ahead of you in the snowstorm with a full Tesla S battery, can I plug my car into your almost-dead battery Volt and give you some juice? Or can I plug in my welder, BBQ grille, etc.? I am going to release a line of electric-car accessories, go glamping in your Modex X with lights, a blender, and a heater!
