First of all, didn't this guy die a few years ago? Or am I thinking of the inventor of the FRITO?
During the '80s I must have eaten nearly a ton of these chips, and NONE of them with any kind of dip. But hey, these things were sort of marketted as having the dips built into the chips. But have rarely eaten a Dorito chip in decades. Still, here's hoping this guy has a seat at the "big table" up yonder, and isn't roasting his "chips" down under.

The guy that invented pringles died a few years ago....
Awww... I love loved that cheetah.
Doritos are generally off my radar, but every-so-often I get a craving for Doritos and Moutain Dew. It's like freebasing corn syrup AND I LOVE IT.

In reply to N Sperlo:
Cheetah = Cheetos, not doritos.
mmm Doritos. Regular, ranch, pizza, etc... I don't always eat chips, but I do love me some Doritos.
Wow, the person who created about a third of my caloric intake when I was a kid is gone. Talk about affecting someone's life.
(oh, and I missed the Cheeseburger flavor this year. Those are awesome.)
Two things:
The last/most recent bag of Doritos I bought was a "Stadium Nachos" flavor, saw it once and tried it, and now I can't find it anywhere.
Just read the guy is going to be buried under Doritos. Story was on Yahoo, so didn't read it, but I imagine he will either be buried with a casket full of Doritos, or the casket will be covered with a layer of Doritos.

Opening up a Mountain Dew and bag of Doritos in an enclosed space is like releasing nerd pheromones into the air. When some receptor in the brain receives both airborne compounds, the individual MUST respond by playing videogames all day.

Nail on the head
Though if you're old-school, it could mean D&D (Err, excuse me, "ADVANCED" D&D, hahaha.)
Fritos
Fritos + bean dip
Fritos + jalapeno bean dip
Doritos + jalapeno bean dip
Doritos + salsa
All sorts of chips and salsa and/or queso
...

I know I already chimed in, but I have to add this- When you said the inventor of Doritos was dead, I immediately thought "Felix Wankel was still alive?"

In H.S a single serving bag of Nacho Doritos and a Mt. Dew was lunch, every stinking day.
I got so burned out on them, I couldn't even stand the smell for twenty-five years. Last year I got a ss bag with a sub sandwich, at the local sub shop. And I'm hooked again. But make mine 1st or 3rd Degree Burn please.

I makes some mean guacamole.
Pretty sure the guy that invented Fritos also invented doritos...Discovery channel....lol
Started off with Fritos in the 30's and expanded the market.... Then bought Lays, and became the giant Frito-Lay....
edit, I'm wrong.... Same company though......Frito lay. Elmer Doolin bought t he recipe for fritos and started that in 1932.

They did a short run of Buffalo Doritos that were hot as hell. It was a sport to eat them. They might have been the 2nd degree ones--all I know is I can't find them now.
The Blazin' Buffalo Ranch ones just aren't as brutal.
am I the only person who misses the original flavour?
I must be the only one who can't stand even the smell of them. My kids (5-9 year old boys) seem to love them though. They rarely ever get them though because I think they are gross an d terrible for them so we limit them. Funny thing is Dorito was my nickname in High school because it is similar to my last name. I just never liked them. My wife is the same way,but she is odd in that she loves Frito's but hates regular corn chips for dipping in salsa. My contention is they are basically the same thing, but the frito is a bit more yellow and has much more salt on it.
a plate of Cool Ranch Doritos with Kraft Mexican cheese melted on top in the microwave with a bowl of pace Chunky medium salsa is my snack of choice.. with a big ol glass of milk to wash it down..

In theory I like them - they get all the ingredients right: salt, cheese flavour, cornmeal. I would never, ever, buy them for myself, but once in a while a friend will have a bag and offer me some. I'll stick my nose in, think "hey, those smell pretty good", and help myself to a little handful.
After about five chips I totally don't want anymore. Yick. It'll be about a year before I can even eat the things again.
Plain salted corn chips? I can munch on those all day. (Especially with salsa, cheese, hot sauce, or olives!) Doritos? Not a chance. They just taste so chemical-y and artificial to me...
Doritos creator Arch West to be buried with world's favourite snack:

thursday, I had doritos for the first time in a LONG time. We were loading in Inrique Isglasis (however it is spelled) and it was the worst load in I have ever done.
The rigging truck (the one with all the chain motors, points, and everything needed to get the show into the air was impounded in New York for being WAY overweight. and the Lighting truck had a bearing fire and they had to chain up one of the axles... so.. I worked from 9am straight through to 9pm without a break... except for 15 minutes where I was able to grab a soda and a small bag of doritos.... they never tasted so good!
