This weekend I was passed by a Mercedes R-Class all done up in black with blacked out window glass and I have to say, it looked just like a hearse. Is this one of THE most pointless vehicles on sale?

It's one of THE, yes...
But, i also feel the same way about the 300M, the Charger, the "retro-style-but-3x-the-size" cars, OH! and the Smart Car.
Useless.

You also have poop in a helmet in your avatar.
I dunno... it's all personal opinion. I have no need or want for a cruiser the size of the Exxon Valdez, though.
The SMART, as sold in the U.S. is pointless because 1.) who needs to worry about parking spaces in this country? and 2.) in Europe the Smart is sold with a very economical turbo-diesel, tho it still is not all that economical compared to slightly bigger diesel minicars. So in places like London, Paris, and anywhere else where space is at a premium....it makes sense. Just not here.
And there are at least 3 of them here in Memphis....so pointless here.

Why does everybody think the R-class is pointless?
I'd MUCH rather have what is effectively a GT-class minivan than a stupid luxo-barge SUV.
Just found an excuse to post this sweet buick hearse pic I found the other day. Has some friends in the background too.
here we go again, gotta jump in and defend the Smart.
Pointless? I think not. 45mpg (real world) out of a non hybrid pointless?
Pointless is all the folks around me every day with 3 or more empty seats in their cars. Im driving all the car I need for my 700 mile a week commute.
And please dont tell me it can't carry things. To date
A 42" LCD tv a set of 4 15" wheels with tires (on 3 separate occasions) how about a 350 small block chevy? yep that too.
Sure I own a truck too for the 3-4 times a year I need it. But if you have a long commute and the luxury to be able to own a dedicated commuter car its excellent.
City car, I'd hate it in the city. But its a great highway cruiser. Parking? Could care less. But no other non hybrid gets the mileage it gets.
Ive got 55,000 miles on mine now and its far from pointless.

Meh, my '86 CRX I had when I was 17 did the same, looked cooler doing it too.
