I love how this guy thinks he invented Gymkhana (the word, the sport, etc).

i think the lawsuit is because the firm that took the domain name did it to cash in on his name and the videos they made with him.. i think there already was a lawsuit against Ken Block that established that he doesn't own the word..
Article said: Therefore you might be surprised to discover Block doesn't own Gymkhana.com,
No I would be surprised if he did. I would also be surprised if Tony Hawk owns skateboarding.com
Ken block is a tool, and a tool that can only sort of drive. His videos are entertaining as hell, but.... the guy himself kinda suuuuucks.

This.....I still want to see a rs200evo become his coffin....because he isn't that good of a rally driver.

That's not very nice to the RS. Let him stuff up one of the Fiestas he has real good..... they can make more of those.
I understand the profit part but they directed those videos and that's half of what those gymkhana videos are....The guy acts like he created a whole automotive genre based off a term that means something completely different than the hooning that he makes videos out of. His hooning is just crap a lot of us do when we are young with our first cars...
"Block said, essentially, the same thing to us.
'I've been working on making our events something that regular drivers could enjoy and have access to, just like traditional autocross.'
Oh, uh, I guess Block doesn't realize that I own the trademark for the term "autocross" and expect I'll be receiving a royalty check from him for this blatant attempt to cash in on the sport.
Wow the block haters are coming out of the woodwork tonight. A whole generation of a-holes who idolized a dirty, undwrhanded, go fast turn left jackwagon, who died a redonkulous death, because he was too cool for a neck restraint, turning on one of the most innovative PRIVATEERS in autosport today...get a life guys.
haters gonna huuuurrrr durrrrr

Okay, okay... but those hats he wears. The brim is all flat!

I don't agree with alot of what he and his people have been doing BUT this SEEMS TO BE a pretty clear case of contract violation and possibly copyright infringement?
+1 on the Earnhardt, nic cage, and ace ventura references. lol
My friends and I call him the "Big Brotato".
(I should mention 1) "Big Potato" is a name we use for someone that's a big deal at work, like "Big Cheese", but in a mocking way, and 2) we're nerds.
I'm with Corytate on this. No, he didn't invent the word "gymkhana", but he does own the brand brand name "Gymkhana". Now a company that he had a relationship with for filming the videos looks like they might be using that relationship and the name of a brand he owns profit.
Not saying it's a clear cut thing that they are definitely in the wrong, but I don't think his claim is completely frivolous and is one of those business things that is genuinely ambiguous enough to make sense for it to be decided legally.
Yeah, Ken Block is a flatbrimmer and his videos demonstrate more flash than technical skill, but... who cares? They're fun. He loves cars. He's playing with cars. If I were rich and good at marketing my brands I'd be doing the same thing. My favorite though is still him at a snowboard park.

I agree with that. Atleast he isn't trying to turn having fun with a car into a style motorsport. see also Formula Drift

Say hi to the straw man for me.
Meh, I walked up to Block and told him I'd beat him at Olympus and PFR. He laughed and signed my buddies shoe. It's not the first time I've chatted with him either.
He's a normal human being. This is no different than a company protecting intellectual property. Where I work, we'd sue the crap out of anyone who remotely produced a product like we do, especially if it was a contractor. Just because you WORKED on something as a contractor does not give you the RIGHTS to it.
That's like saying a construction company owns the rights to the technology they built/installed at a plant... it's stupid.
