I've been having trouble viewing hotlinked pics. Some come up fine, but others are big black squares. But if I click on them and go to "view image" the pic appears once I've closed down the page that pops up after View Image.

This makes the hotlink thread a bitch.

I tried re-installing Flash Player, but to no avail.

Try clearing your browser cache and deleting cookies. What broswer are you using?

That's really weird, I'd bet that's IE you're using...Flash has nothing to do with it.

You might want to check this setting in about:config if this is happening in Firefox:

Yeah, its FireFox. I'll look into that.

Gameboy, I read the Mozilla page. What exactly am I looking for in about:config? I recall I changed something in there so I could use Crazedlist. I very, very hesitant to mess with anything in there.

Oooh! Update. So I find out I had 610 MB of browser cache used. Yowza. Cleared it out, and all appears to be well.

Thanks guys.

And this is why people need anti-virus programs. Clear out your cache weekly people! It'll also help your system performance, especially on the interweb!

I use CCleaner (originally crap cleaner) as doing a simple "temp internet files" delete doesn't actually remove everything, especially any bad files that may be lurking in the temp folder.

I actually disable disk caching on my browsers, I use RAM cache only. If you knew the things advertisers could do with your cache you'd do the same...and disk caching on a PC with a slow hard drive (read: any stock off-the-shelf non-gaming PC) is going to bring the computer to a crawl. On top of that, disk caching is only better than RAM caching for speeding up page loads on browser session recovery or fresh startup.

If you want to do this you set browser.cache.disk.capacity to 0 in about:config (type "about:config" into Firefox's address bar and you'll see the super-leet advanced config panel)

i set a ridiculously low choke on my cache. about 50 megs is enough that a youtube video washes it out.

Update: Threads with pics (ala hotlink thread) are still go/no go. I read Gamboy's page and re-set the integer form 1 to 2 as per the page. I also cleared out the cache and history.

Still getting big black boxes.

Alternate browser? Chrome, Safari, even IE. Same thing there?

Any new add-ons or extensions for FF? Do you have auto updates turned on for FF? It could be an update issue.

You'll need to log in to post.
