I would guess that most Aston (or high end car) drivers the bodyshop sees demand that it be absolutely perfect, so they are accustom to automatically replacing all the parts with new.
I agree a Civic bumper would be a lot cheaper, but you have to think there are a billion Civics, so by sheer volume parts would be cheaper.
I would guess they have to order parts for it from a specific supplier (if not the dealer itself) which causes the premium price.
Often, insurance companies will suggest "refurbished" or "rebuilt" parts as an alternative to new, dropping the overall cost. I bet there's no such thing on a car like this.

This is the perfect excuse to paint the whole car matte black.
yes please....yes and yes +1x2000
well, my dad looked at it, said its spot on the price... Expensive cars carry expensive parts
Looks about right to me on price. The factory stuff takes some fiddling to get it to fit right and the light more then likely only comes as a assembly.
Be thankful its not a lotus.
Umm... you really haven't answered the big question here...
What is a member on this board doing with an Aston Martin!!
Also, it's an Aston Martin. It's English. Yes, it's really $5,600 worth of damage.

A good friend of mine clipped the wall at Mosport last week in the rain, smashing the corner of the rear clamshell on his Elise. $4500.

I understand massaging new parts. But 15 berkeleying hours for a bumper cover and taillight?
You've been watching that drifting on the youTube again haven't you?
I say leave the scuffs and add some bullet holes, not the stickers but real bullet holes. Then people will think you're a real badass.

To be "perfect" it should have all new parts. Down the road, if you sell it, a buyer will respect replaced parts more than repaired parts. The funny thing is if you make it "perfect" you get the bad carfax history that goes along with it, automatically knocking down your price, and scaring off some potential buyers.
Not necessarily. Carfax is not that reliable. It may or may not make a blip on Carfax. It's all dependent upon the insurer involved even participating in sharing info with Carfax.

Not to be a party pooper, but there is a crack in the paint to the left of the top yellow mark, and the line between the quarter panel and the bumper looks askew to me- you can see the bumper sticking out at the wheel well 1/8" or so. All of that would not get a second look from me if it were my civic, but this is a beast of a different orbit than the one I inhabit. Oh, and I think I see some stress fissures in red part of the lens above where the impact occurred. In this price range, the body shop assumes you know and like the position.
The GOOD panel fit on my Lotus is worse than what you think is "off" on his Aston. Like, a lot worse. Hand-built cars from Britain aren't known for having even gaps.

I guess the normal answers dont apply...basically then I got nutthin

Hard to say what I would do in your shoes, since I'm not, but, I would think I would try some rubbing compound on it and call it a day. I also don't own a car that nice.
Why don't you TRY polishing it out yourself first? It'll cost you less than $50 and look a damn sight better.

Dude, if I farted in a Aston Martin it would cause $5600 in damage.
Seriously, If it were mine, I'd try to wheel it out. Take it to another body shop, not a dealership parts hanger body shop but one where they actually FIX stuff and I bet they get it out for a few hundred. When you pick up the car, give the body man a 6 pack of his favorite brew and figure you saved 5 grand.

And yes, please do tell why you were driving an Aston. If it's yours, you no longer belong here your rich ba$tard . If it's not yours, do tell you you fenagled that ride.

Sheesh - you guys are a tough crowd! I drive a 3-year-old 7 series BMW and nobody gives me any crap for that - I bet that Aston was cheaper than my car to boot! But that's exactly why I didn't go Aston or Maserati, relatively cheap buy in will get killed by maintenance and repair costs.
If you're not going to go through insurance and you don't need it to be perfect for your own sanity, buff out the yellow paint transfer and leave it alone until you can't stand it anymore. By then you might be able to source a used replacement bumper cover and light from a recycler and save some green.
If I hit the lottery and could afford cool stuff like that, I'd still want to hang out here with you guys. I'd share my shiny new toys though.
If he'd just post pictures, I think everyone would be much more civil. That bumper shot is a tease.
definatly try and buff it out... and I bet you can find somebody to repair any cuts or tears in the bumper for a LOT cheaper
