Someone ran a stop sign and boogered up my car last night. Everyone is fine and I drove the car home but I'm not sure whether I should preemtively start car shopping. It's a 2010 XD with 150k miles.

Yes sir, worth right around $5k by my calculations. The door seems to have taken the brunt of the impact, the fender will also need replace and there is at least minimal damage to the door sill. I really liked this one too.
Also, I'm back!
The a pillar and rocker are what makes it done. Almost willing to bet actual money that the a-pillar is kinked.
If it was mine, id buyback, slam a door of the correct color on it, straighted the fender the best i could, and run the thing into the dirt.
In reply to bentwrench:
The roof is not buckled but the door is warped to the point it doesn't seal. I can't see any damage to the pillar but not being able to open the door complicates things.
I predict $4k in damage.
I guess it is fixable. With $5k value, it is questionable as to whether they will.
No airbags, maybe, maybe not. Not being able to open the door could be reason enough to just total it out.
It's awful close, but I'm going to say it's probably totaled. If it were in my world, I'd pay for an hour of teardown by the body shop, so they can expose the A and B pillars. That's what will determine if it's fixable or not. I'd suspect some damage on the A, but can't quite tell how bad. Fingers crossed the B is OK, or has minimal.
It's borderline. Do you want it fixed?
Borderline is where I've thought too. I'm hoping they get their adjuster to check it out early this week, though with the claim having just been filed yesterday I'm still waiting to hear anything.
I'd like to keep it but if it was totaled it wouldn't be the end of my world. I would probably try to buyback, replace the door, and use it to replace my wife's focus if that ends up being the case.
In my personal experience, the "other guy's" insurance company will total it for anything. If you file on them, my money says "it's totaled." Now, your insurance company may work with you and fix it properly, if that's what you want. Unless you have USAA SUCKS, THE WORST berkeleyING INSURANCE AGENCY IN THE WORLD. If the other guy had USAA SUCKS, THE WORST berkeleyING INSURANCE AGENCY IN THE WORLD then you should never call them again and just let your insurance deal with it.
Dr. Hess, we know you have a bias against insurance, and USAA in particular, but it's just angry spew, is unfounded, and frankly completely inaccurate. You want to vent, knock yourself out, but not really helping OP here. Truth be told, and I don't work for them, USAA has one of the gold standards in the industry for claims service.
OP, If you haven't heard from the insurance company yet, don't be shy. Call them. Ask what the status of your claim is. They may not want or need to send an adjuster. They may ask you to bring it to a shop (you get to choose). Bring it to a shop anyway and get an estimate. That will help speed things along.
Sorry, guy. I don't have a bias against insurance companies more than anyone else (which would be EVERYONE not working for one,) but USAA is THE WORST berkeleyING INSURANCE AGENCY IN THE WORLD per my personal experience. GEICO is great, for example. And my personal recommendation, based on my experience with several claims similar to the OP's, is to file with his own company and let them work it out. How is that not helping?
I've got Geico, they've got State farm (who I used to have). Crossing my fingers but I don't expect any problems. It also helps that the guy admitted straight away to me and the police that it was totally his fault.
If I don't hear from insurance by tomorrow I'll definitely be calling. It doesn't help that next week is finals week to boot.
Thanks for all the opines so far!
What's the name of that Russian youtube guy again? Return flight ticket, bottle of vodka, a weekend later "is new as good, da?"
The damage looks similar to my '11 Fiesta.
The side airbags went off, all of them.
The airbags and possible damage to the door frame made it a total.
It will be up to the adjuster and you will have to agree on a price.
And, since nobody else has said it yet, Welcome back! Since you mentioned finals, I gather you've been at school (and showing extreme dedication by not posting here when you ought to be writing a paper or in a lab or something)?
Looks to me like the damage to the A-pillar and rocker is just cosmetic. Could be good as new with a new door and a little bodywork.
In reply to Dr. Hess:
Filing with his own insurance company means he pays the deductible, even if it is the other guys fault.
If the floor, roof, and pillar are structurally sound then it's a reskin on the rocker and a new door and fender, which could be had used in the same color to save cost.
If the pillars aren't wrinkled I'd be inclined to hang a used door of the correct color, pound down the high spots on the rocker panel, maybe pop the big dent out of the fender if you can do it on car, little touch up paint and call it good enough.
When talking to insurance guys always mention how the other guy admitted fault. Say it a lot - that sped up a claim I had once.
