Agreed, so what if we set up a game show style venue where contestants (ISIL) had to answer a series of questions demonstrating their knowledge of the a Karan before being allowed to harm their captives.
If they can only answer the super easy ten point questions (the answer is always infidel), they just get to squirt their captives in the face with seltzer water.
You’ve really got to know your stuff (no calling an Emon for help) before you can chop their head off.
Joking aside, nobody could argue that if you’re going to take a life in the name of something, you at least should have a masterful understanding of it.
I'm pretty sure most ISIL guys wouldn't get past the seltzer water.

I like the theory, but I would take it a step further. If you want to call yourself a Muslim, Catholic, Buddhist, Christian, etc, you have to pass a test.
This way you have to have a complete picture and general kmowledge of the belief system before claiming to follow it. Way to much cherry-picking on all of the religions.
Just like you have to pass a test to become a US citizen.

Especially considering it's been shown Atheists tend to have more knowledge of the Bible than believers.

FTFY, while I am not a believer of any particular deity, I have learned a decent chunk about several of them. The one that was perhaps the best story though was the Book of Mormon.
I prefer to view religion, and the stories they are based upon, as a template to live your life by. I'm still by no means an atheist though. Those people are just as bad as the bible thumpers, islamic extremists, polygamists, and such. I'm squarely in the "Don't bother me, I won't bother you" camp.

Totally. I don't know how many times some darn atheist has knocked on my door to push his/her agenda, or made me swear to his/her "holy" book when in court, or pushed their belief in to my pledge of allegiance, printed their prayer on my money, put their "religious" symbols on gov't property, and started wars because the thing they don't believe in is way better then the thing someone else doesn't believe in.

About like conejunkie......they're in large numbers and complain more than a stereotypical Jew. At least the Jehovah's Witnesses will leave you alone at request. The roving group of scientologists that were around amused me greatly. I'm convinced they're actually a cult....because they didn't know E36 M3 about science.
Due note, I will screw with any person who pesters me about religion or a lack thereof.

I think you are confusing atheists (those who don't believe in god) with anti-religion activists. Most atheists will have far less interest in religious related issues then any one else (one of the reasons why they are atheists).
Equating atheists with extremists does seems to be a "thing" recently though, strange.

Any source for the study showing that? Not disagreeing it may be true but would be interested in reading about a study like that.
