As a yota lover I'm not sure whether to be proud of a tough little truck that can be used as a military vehicle, or sad that it's being used for evil... https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=sq_iP5lQsAU

they have been using them for years as everything from hauling people and cargo to mobile missile launchers. Nothing new here
This was news to me. once isis is destroyed, maybe all those yotas will find a way over here. I'd love a dependable truck with a missle launching turret on the back. Of course mine would be outfitted with a slingshot that fires ice cream into the mouths of children.
US foundation-funded Public Radio International (PRI) reported in a 2014 article titled, “This one Toyota pickup truck is at the top of the shopping list for the Free Syrian Army — and the Taliban,” that:
Recently, when the US State Department resumed sending non-lethal aid to Syrian rebels, the delivery list included 43 Toyota trucks.
If you've ever been "that guy" driving a Mopar race car in a field of Chevies, you would understand. Even a burned out, blown up Yota has a few parts left.
Yup, funny though I never see them towing anything. Guess those goat lovers don't have anything to tow.
In reply to qued:
Syrian rebels translates to al queda and isis terrorists iwhen converted to plain english. I don't know why we continually train, arm and support the very groups we are supposedly at war with.
It would be funny if Ford shipped over some F-150s so they could refute those chevy commercials picking on the fragile and weak aluminum beds. Mike Rowe could proclaim, "Built Ford tough. Tough enough for the moderate terrorists in Syria."
During Desert Shield/Storm I was attached to a field hospital set up in the desert out past the neutral zone. Each night a few shots from a heavy machine gun were fired in our general direction from the north, never hitting anything but making the nurses nervous.
It was a three man team of Iraqis in a Toyota. They would scream down the road from the north, pound out a dozen shots and bail back up the way they had come. On the fourth night of this our security force (two MPs in a hummer) evaporated the truck and its occupants with a TOW missile. No more harassing fire from hadji
I recently bought an 84' Toyota 1/2 ton pickup, aka Hilux everywhere else on earth. Beige, brown vinyl bench, Carbed 22R motor, 4 speed manual. It was partially on the basis that it took Top Gear 3 episodes to kill one, and every insurgency since the mid-80s has relied on them.
It's pretty awesome.

If I remember correctly, it didn't die, they just retired it to stage prop. Because it drove in to the studio under it's own power after all the abuse.
Well I'm sure they don't have to worry about rust over there and I'm unaware of much else that can kill an old 'Yota.

Yup. The final abuse was sitting atop a high rise apartment building while it underwent a controlled demolition, dropping to the ground, getting dug out of the rubble. I believe the frame had snapped, and it was driving under its own power with the driveshaft holding the front and back together.
They decided it was worthy of a plinth.
In reply to Beer Baron:
That's what I thought. I remembered the demo, but I was sure they got it running again.
Not an actual death, but broken beyond driveable.
what happened to the TG Toyota? did they keep it around for the new fustercluck with all the hosts, or did they get rid of it? i never saw an episode with the new gang..
They get Iron Sheik's approval. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eYhF2A9FbW0
