It's a remake of the original on Fox. We're enjoying
I once saw it (THE berkeleying ORIGINAL) in Hollywood on Halloween. After that, all other viewings are at best - eh. And watching it on video or TV just sucks. Do they at least have the audience participation track? Come on.
I bought the DVD and watched it at home. It sucked.
That is a movie that must be watched in a theater or drive in, with a lot of drunk people, dressed up in overly tight clothing and garters.
The original had plenty of young, breathtakingly beautiful, apolitical Susan Sarandon content in it…how much young, breathtakingly beautiful, apolitical Susan Sarandon content does the remake have in it???
In reply to RX Reven': Victoria Justice in very little clothing. Probably not as risqué by today's standards but on an empirical scale: WAY hotter!

At midnight, with toast.
My kids were truly horrified when I broke into an impromptu version of the Timewarp the other day at the breakfast table.

I bet, especially if you were in costume.
If I had watched it, my living room would be a mess what with all the toast and playing cards and newspaper and squirt guns.
Conveniently, my wife's name is Janet aka Damit Janet.
I saw the original in a theater a few weeks ago for the first time in many years, still fun. (These days they sell "survival packs" which have a piece of toast, some glow sticks, newspaper, etc)
I forgot the remake was last night, SWMBO text me 1/2 way thru it to say her 12 year old daughter was loving it (we took her to the show at the theater to give her the necessary background).
Did anyone watch it last night? Was it any good and worth seeking out? How did it stand up to the original?
I run streaming only, not even an antenna. Being Fox it should make it's way to Hulu. If it does my wife and I will probably watch it. She was in the local RHPS group a few years ago.
I still remember the fun of the midnight shows back in my college years. I often went as Rocky back then. Now I would be Riff Raff!
I wanted to see the new one but missed it...it will show up again somewhere.

Watched it. Enjoyed it. Was it the original? No. Not as crazy and frenetic as the original but easier to understand (lyrics) and storyline which would help first time viewers. The inclusion of the theatre goers and their interaction played ok but they left out all the classic lines "Brad" (shiny happy person), "Janet" (slut), etc. for obvious reasons.
Overall the timing and delivery was just a little off and while Laverne Cox did an admirable job as Frankenfurter, NO ONE will ever be able to top Tim Curry. His performance in the original is truly inspired. I thought the actress that played Columbia did a notable performance as well.
I got through about the first 45 minutes. Was grinning ear to ear to hear the songs again and making the comments as it went through. SWMBO's never been, so she just kept looking at me like I was nuts and asked me to stop singing along....
I stopped enjoying it after Dr. Frankenfurter did a couple of numbers. Cox bounced back and forth between meeting Curry's accent and not. Plus, she just didn't have the power and force into the songs like Curry did. Call me spoiled or an old fogey, it just couldn't compare. I was enjoying it up to that point, but her performance was a bit of a downer.
The guy doing RifRaf was impressive in looks and manners, but his voice was too pretty.
I wonder who it was intended for? My 15-year old found it weird. My mom had never seen it, so she wasn't impressed. I think you'd have to have been of a certain age and attended at least one show for it to be enjoyable. Let's be honest, the movie kinda stinks, it's the experience that made it.
Overall, I didn't hate it and sang along with all the songs, but it made me long for going to another theater show.

So your SWMBO must be 20 years younger than you, you sly fox you. I refuse to believe someone of our generation hasn't seen Rocky Horror
I forgot it was on, damit janet! Saw this post and immediately turned the TV back on just in time to watch the ending.
I didn't see the original till I was almost 30. Going into the military young and spending a lot of time overseas I missed it when it first came out. Found out about it from my sister in college. Never got into the role-playing while watching it but did enjoy the campiness of original every time I watched it. It used to play on TV every Halloween but haven't seen it the last couple years. Will have to wait and catch this on Hulu when it makes it there.
