Its hard to believe that it has been seven years since one of the greatest tragedies in American history took place. I woke up this morning for my 8:00, and was still asleep by the time I got to class. About halfway through class I looked at my phone, and noticed that it was September 11. I came back here and put on Alan Jackson's "Where Were You", said a prayer, and wrote this up before going back to bed for an hour, although I don't think I'll be able to sleep.

I was in Civics class at the time as a Highschool freshman...then we went to the library to see the second plane hit live on TV. I won't ever remember anything quite like i will remember that.

Today was good.

I took a moment to remember that morning, I had just made it in to work and my co-worker said, "Have you been listening to the news?" I said that I had listened to a CD on the way in and we stood there watching the live footage as the second plane flew into the second tower. I think we only sold about $50 worth of stuff that whole day. Everybody was walking around like zombies, in shock from the morning's events.

I remember the morning it happened. My radio was on the Howard Stern show when I woke up and at first I thought he was just pulling some of his usual BS. Then as I started to wake up a little more I heard the actual sound of panic in his voice. I changed the station and heard another DJ talking about it. I immediately turned off the radio and turned on the TV. I sat there in shock watching this attack on our people. I got up and went to work, I was working for a DSL company at the time. We had virtually no calls the entire day, the few we did get people were panicking thinking there was some attack on the internet happening as well. It was a very surreal day.

Today was also my best friends birthday, kind of a lousy way to remember your friends birthday.

I was in 6th grade, I remember the principle coming over the intercom. It was 9:13 on the clock, and I was in 1st period, Literature. I can remember everything about that room that day. I was so scared the entire day, because nobody would tell us what was going on other than that the two towers had been hit. I came home, and my dad was home (he's never home before 6), and we all went to church. The thing I remember most was how silent the town was.

Seven years ago I spent the morning in the parking lot at Shea Stadium, waiting to be told what to do and watching the news. Once people were able to leave Manhattan I began making trips from Flushing to the city line until my shift started at 6pm, when I did my route from Flushing to a spooky, deserted LaGuardia airport.

Tonight on my lunch break I was able to look up and see the towers of light over the surrounding buildings. I don't get into alot of symbolic things, but they are a pretty impressive sight.

On the weekend of September 8/9 2001, my soon-to-be wife and I went to NYC to celebrate her birthday by attending a Broadway production. It was a great time and we enjoyed as many of the things that the city has to offer as we could. One place we wanted to go was the Trade Center since I had never seen the Towers in person. Time got away from us and we didn't go. I remember saying "NYC is not even two hours away, we'll be back soon enough. It's not like they're going anywhere."

A couple of days later, my employer had set aside a day that a number of employees could work with United Way and go to various sites to do repair work and cleanup around town. I was assigned a children's campground repairing and painting equipment and facilities.

It was on the way to the campground that I decided to turn on the radio. The first plane had already hit. I thought some private plane touring around the city had screwed up somehow. Then, they said a second plane had just slammed into the other tower and I said "oh s__t!" Of course, hell continued to break loose and the organizers canceled the charity event (obviously). I had to go back to work, but I pulled a TV into our office and I'm pretty sure I didn't get much done.

Part of me wishes I had gone to the towers that day while we were there, but another part of me is glad I didn't. I think it would hit me even harder if I had been in the building and seen faces that would haunt me as possibly, or even likely not making it past that Tuesday.

I was asleep at home, on pain killers and muscle rexlant. Wife called me (and at the time, the bedroom phone was the old style with a real bell inside) and woke me, telling me that a plane had just hit the WTC. I hung up. She called again, I picked ip up and hung it up (Caller ID box told me who it was). After the 3rd call, I picked it up. She told me to turn the tv on, and I got to see the 2nd plane hit live. What a wonderful way to wake up.

That Friday evening, we drove to Maine, straight up the I-95 corridor. The weirdest thing was seeing the smoke from the fire starting in mid-Jersey. There must have been an inversion layer, since it was a very thin layer of smoke, for hundreds of miles. I honestly thought that it was clouds, since we were still a good ways from NYC.

I thought the same thing. I was getting ready to go to work, and my brother had called my mom to say that "a plane hit the world trade center."

I remember thinking, "That's stupid. How do you hit the world trade center flying around? It's only the biggest freakin' thing in New York City." I shrugged, went to work.

Yeah, so I was corrected when I unlocked the store and turned on the television.

Me too. I was at work, and someone told me a plane hit the World Trade Center. I actually kinda chuckled and said "what a dumbass!", thinking it was a small private plane that accidentally hit it. Boy oh boy did I feel like an a$$hole when I found out otherwise.

I was woken up by a phone call from a friend. I was wondering why he'd be calling me so early.

I remember exactly what he said: "The twin towers are gone."

It took a minute to sink in. I wasn't sure if it was some weird practical joke (I have weird friends).

I remember I had just dropped my wife off at work and was pulling into my work parking lot when the first plane hit.

Like many folks, when the first hit we didn't really know what was going on. When the second hit, we knew it was bad. Sprint wouldn't let anyone leave, but I left work as quickly as I could and went to get my boy from preschool. I wanted my loved ones as close to me as possible that day.

Sprint eventually showed some good sense and my wife came home, too. I think we spent most of the day staring slack-jawed at the TV and just staying close to one another.
