Get in line kids

The DMC 12 is coming back into limited production, with some modern updates.

Ls3 powered, limited to 50 units per year thanks top some replica/restoration laws changing, and starting under 100k.

Time to start saving pennies and getting that flux capacitor rebuilt.

Sadly, I don't believe O'Reilly's lists the flux capacitor on their website anymore.

O'Reilly's still has it:

Says it requires the awful original engine though, so it won't work on the new models.

Looks like someone has done the conversion before:

I do wonder what that does to the weight distribution.

Oh good, they kept the rearward weight bias and went with an LSx, that should make it worthwhile.

Nope.

They could use something a bit more modern or interesting?

What about the handling (or lack there of)?

They could have done an all electric version ala Tesla or even a hybrid like a Volt to go along with that lovely stainless steel bodywork.

Oh well, I'm sure lottery winners will enjoy the short time they have with them before they blown them up, destroy them or lose them to the IRS/Collections.

No, but the upgraded part # 121GMF might:

I think the hot setup for these is a 3.8 supercharged mill......

Once the rust is fixed of course

Somewhat old news since I believe it was discussed when they first announced it when the law passed allowing them to do it some months ago, but I believe this is the first they've actually given in the way of details. And reading the article, they're still rather short on actual production details (not wholly surprising, Espey will doubtless dole out info slowly to keep the story in the news as much as possible- he and DMC-H are good at that...).

I've seen the LS-powered DMC in person a few times, the guy who did it used it as his senior Mechanical Engineering project. It was done really well, sounded awesome and was the only DMC I've seen that could do a burnout without the tires being soaped and the car up on jacks so the wheels barely touched the ground (i.e., how they did in in BTTF).

There's a lot of speculation among the DeLorean community as to just how much of this is actually going to come about, to be honest. DMC-H is really good at coming up with things every other year or so that put them and the car back into the spotlight (introducing the current 'new build' cars which are also mentioned in the article, the supercharged version they made- or borrowed depending on who you ask, the electric DMC-12, rumors of them buying the Kappa platform factory and rights and making a new DMC car on the platform, and now this) with very little actually happening in the way of production- IIRC not many 'new build' cars have been made, and the SC and EV versions have never been produced beyond the prototype. I imagine they'll make a few- but I have my doubts they'll ever get near the rate of production they're talking about.

I will still be watching this pretty closely though, as they're talking about making a number of improvements that may translate into kits that can be purchased for refitting the original cars- I'm sure a lot of people would love a kit from DMC themselves to easily drop an LS into their car to replace the woefully anemic original PRV, and they're also looking at ways to improve the frame and the electronics.

I'm not holding my breath though- we'll see which happens first, them getting a production 2017 DMC-12 on the road or my getting the L67 swapped into mine and back on the road.
