Yeah, not really into turkey all that much & just wanted something quick after an 11.5 hour drive. It was the only place open(which was kinda cool, actually).

And that's exactly what I had(plus the ham chunks)!
Oh wow. I had to go look it up. Along the beach, there is a Waffle House about every five minutes. The wife and I had a meal at a Waffle House there about two months ago, somewhat as a lark, and ended up being completely impressed with the quality of the food and the skill of the staff.
After looking at Google, I can see that we went to the location two Houses to the west, and not this one.
The local news folks seemed to question the rapid reopening, but it doesn't strike me as odd. They have that as a deeply ingrained component of their corporate culture. They're the first to reopen after any disaster. I've enjoyed their abbreviated menu post Katrina. I just see this as an extension of that.
In reply to Mike:
We drove past it a couple times yesterday - it's literally right next to the drive to the apartment complex - and walked past it again last night. After it hit the news yesterday there was no one eating at this location. In fact, one of the staff was just hanging outside the front door while we were walking home & she invited us in for some free food. I would have accepted, but we'd just eaten an hour before.
Hell, there weren't any people out on the beach nearby last night, not even the winos.
And yes - people who complain about Starbucks being on every corner have never experienced Waffle House down here.
I assume that dropping this guy into an oubliette and sealing the hatch forever would be considered "cruel and unusual" punishment...

The good Detroit Coney Islands will put the coney chili on the hash browns, or the whole breakfast plate.
