I have a love-hate relationship with i-Tunes on my PC.

Have you tried rebooting the phone while not connected to the PC? My Touch has to do this every so often. You might also consider connecting the phone while powered down and THEN rebooting, but check that on some other forums - Apple products can do some weird things if you find the right loophole.

You might also want to check if iTunes needs updated.

How long did you wait when it locked? I've routinely ad iTunes act locked up for over 1/2 hour while processing some innane task.

Sorry, guess it's not really much help....

Step #1: Smash PC on the ground
Step#2: Buy a Mac
Step#3: Enjoy life

Just kidding, I am a recent Mac convert, I 'm not a hater.

Most iPod and iPhones get confused when syncing to multiple computers. One computer should be the "primary" sync point, everything else should manually transferred. (You can do that in the main settings page for the device) If you get a successful sync and everything is backed up onto a computer, then try resetting the device and updating the software for both iTunes and the device.
