I saw most of them agree that the play was correct based on the coverage, and that it was man coverage where a rookie would have been picked by the two other players. Most of the time, a quick slant like that works. A fade would have been a good call, too- probably even with the two guys we were talking about. But that does not mean it was the worst call ever. What's funny about all of this "worst call ever" talk- it completely minimizes the fact that that a player figured out what was going on, and executed his job better than everyone else did. Had Seattle scored- it would have been a good call. Instead of pointing out that Butler really did an amazing job seeing what was going on AND made a great play, we just assume that the offense made the worst call ever. Wilson *could* have thrown the ball a little to the right, which would have made the reciever the only one who could have caught it (and would have made the contact pass interference). The other reciever *could* have pushed the defensive back into the path of Butler just a little. Then again, had Seattle converted a 3rd down in the 3rd quarter, when the reciever had the ball in his hands, in scoring position, all of this one play stuff would have probably been moot.

the "talking heads" to which I was referring were Dan Patrick, all the cast of Around the Horn, and the guys on PTI

Patrick said that even if the pass had been completed and he had scored, that he, Dan Patrick, would still have said it was the wrong pass .. would have congratulated the result, but that a fade … where ONLY the Sea Hawks receiver could have caught it would have been the better call

several QB's that were interviewed said that Wilson missed slightly on ball placement… needed to be back shoulder, needed to be lower … yada yada yada … and others agreed with the OC that the receiver should have fought for the ball harder … whatever … (that, to me, sounded like the OC was trying to shift blame .. kind of a chicken E36 M3 move)

I really don't think that it was the worst call ever, I do think that there were better options for Seattle .. though I'm quite happy with the outcome of the game

I was wrong with my guess. How did you come to be a Seahawks fan in NC? Grow up out there? For the record I like the Seahawks, and Seattle in general. I wanted/want to move out there as I loved my visit back in 2001. Life changed for me shortly after the trip, so I am stuck here in MA.

Anyway, Go Pats!!!!

Went to college in Idaho. Then later lived just across the sound from Seattle for 4 years. The only NFL game I ever saw in person was a Pats-Steelers game in Pittsburgh. Must have been 1986. It was a blowout. My dad, myself and my brother were just about the only ones in the stadium cheering for the Pats. I thought at times that some out of work steelworkers were going to make sure we stopped cheering for the Pats. I grew up as Celtics and Red Sox fan, but other than thinking Steve Grogan looked like that football toy where you hit the guy on the head to kick the ball, I wasn't a big Pats fan for some reason.

Note similarity between the two. Especially the necks.

Nah the toys neck isn't twisted and broken like I remember Grogan's to be late in his career. I have fond memories of him and the old stadium. My father brought me to a few games in the good old days (read dark days) of the patsies.

I have an old seahawks hat that I was trying to convince my youngest son to wear to school last Friday for his Patriots day party. It has the old AFC logo on it. Pretty cool hat even being beat up from years of me wearing it.
