Just to add my thoughts to the rest.  Been there.

Terrible in the best of times.  People without pets will never understand.  Sorry for your loss Margie.  I still know the date and time I lost my dog five years ago, and one our cats has heart issues.  Yes he has his own heart doctor he goes too.  My wife says he waits by the door until I get home every night.  Not sure how much longer he will be here, but hopefully many more days to come .

Hoping for the best with the storm for all of you in GRM land.

My sympathies added to the chorus.   I was there yesterday with my wife having to choose between her beloved kitty unable to walk and experiencing multiple seizures a day, or giving Muffin the rest she deserved after fifteen years of loving devotion.  Today I had to dig a six paw deep hole in the Tennessee red clay, but as sore as I am and as sad as we both are, I know she made the right choice, and gave her cat the best end-of-life that she could.  One last enveloping cuddle and all the Bojangles juicy chicken she could lift her head to eat, and she drifted off in my wife's arms.  I felt her heartbeat fade before they even made the anesthetic injection, and that was minutes before the final euthanasia fluid entered the i.v.  It was definitely her time and she gave her all to the last, and we know we did all we could to help her make it there.  I'm sure your kitten felt the same, loved til the end of time.

I have the firm belief that pets come and go as they are needed. It may not be ideal, but her exit at this time could have as yet untold benefits. While it is sad, it opens whatever is next.

My sincerest condolences Margie and Travellering; these are great losses to those who care deeply for their entire family.

Every day my cat proves how much better life is with a fur kid.

I have had to let go of two in the last few years.  Both of them were over 18 and both of them were support who saw me through the aftermath of losing my father at the age of 12 and an extremely difficult young adulthood after that. My wife and I joke that one of them was our first marriage counselor.  Before we got married, if we had a disagreement, the cat would come and sit right between us, stare us in the eyes, and meow at us. Just a "hey, cut it out".  I am about two weeks away from my third anniversary, In some ways I owe my marriage getting off on the right foot to that cat.

May be easy to dismiss, but its shocking how much help the little bundles of fur and character can be in a stressful situation. Currently have 3 cats between the wife and I and cant imagine not having them. Nothing like coming home from a stressful day and having my 18lb monster of a cat sit on my chest and aggressively head butt/cuddle as a recovery method.

Take care Margie, stay safe!

I'm sorry for your loss.  We lost our 13 year old dog earlier this year, and it was brutal.  They do become a part of the family.
