I just hear that Japan and other Asian countries are starting their own CFC system........except they won't allow American cars to qualify for the program.
Anyone else heard of this?

Yeah, Europe and Japan have done CFC stuff before, don't know the details. Ever notice very few "old" cars there? Weird tax and emmision laws discourage old cars.

not emissions related in japan.. but safety. After the car reaches about 5 years old.. it has to be all but compleatly disassembled to check EVERYTHING for safety. Anything that is not up to snuff needs to be replaced.

After that it is like every 2 years or so

Just imagine replacing your entire suspension, brakes, bearings, hoses, belts, lamps, seatbelts, and maybe even the glass every few years? And you can't do the work yourself, it has to be done at a specialised garage. Buying a new car sounds cheaper

This is, of course, for the safety of auto industry jobs, not the safety of the driver.

Japan has always had that safety inspection thing that more or less takes most cars off the road by the time they're 5 years old. Plus, US cars are pretty uncommon over there - outside of the few that have been brought in by enthusiasts I would be surprised to find out there's any of them in regular use.
