I have a SWA ticket to burn by 9/14 so I figure I will go to Long Beach for the Japanese Classic Car Show on 9/12.
What other cool things can I do near Long Beach or Anaheim?

I recommend breakfast at The Schooner or Later. It is one of my favorites.

OK, here we go again,
Saturday Morning 5 to 8
Either Doughnut Derelicts at Warner and Magnolia in Huntington Beach or Cars and Coffee in Irvine. Do not try to go to both shows on the same day.
DD is primarily Hot Rods, Woodys and more classic cars (including some British) CC caters to the more refined car person who may or may not work on their car.
The Peterson is about .5 to 5 hours north of long beach depending on traffic. In all reality, it should take less than an hour on a weekend.
Drive PCH North or south, does not matter too much, always enjoyable with the exception when it turns into Sepulveda thru Los Angeles
If you are a member of the cult, The mouse house is in Anaheim
Thanks for the heads up, the show is usually in October, so I may be able to go this year.

Thanks for the tips. I arrive at LAX in the morning and I am going to hit The Peterson Musuem since I am close. I can figure out the evening later.
I have driven the PCH before and it is one of the best drives. No Mickey for me.....
While traveling like you have planned I have had great experiences using priceline.com to name my own price on hotel rooms and rental cars.
The hotels I have gotten were all in the 4 star range and included nice Marriott Resorts in Newport Beach as well as Embassy Suites and highrise Sheraton's. All in the $50-$99 range.
The name your own on rental cars has worked very well. That may not be perfect for you if you want a specific convertable (like exactly a Mustang) but you can select a convertable but run the risk of getting a Sebring.
