After having dealt with beavers before, I've learned that there is no way to humanely mitigate them.  We tried relocation, busting their dams, predator habitation... everything.  They're too intelligent and stupid to get the hint...  I have no idea about your state, but in New Hampshire, you can notify Fish and Game, and they will give you a permit to eliminate the animal if its causing issues to your property.  Killing the very big sucker immediately put the issue to bed.

What no tree house! That would have been a a great location and view. Your lucky you got your 15 yr old daughter out to the location. I would have had a battle royal getting my 15 yr old into the car if she even knew we were headed to the woods. Camping to her is staying in a 3 star hotel just like her mother.

They are no kill in this state.

I've been looking at beaver deceivers. Big pipe that goes under the dam.

Beavers rebuilt one dam, but water level is at least 1' lower than it was last week. Not much flow to dam up.

Dug a drainage trench with the neighbors excavator, which was a nightmare. Something is very wring with it. Zero power, you can do more than one hydraulic function at once.... And have to swing really slow... And it would not track, if you did both tracks the same direction it would go, try to use one? Nope, engine dies. Don't even think about opposite directions.... And there is a hill between our properties (on a gravel road...) it died like 10x trying to go up a little hill straight. So its a really messy trench and I didn't do any cleanup. I didn't want the machine to die on my property :lmao:

And this berkeleyer took up residency in my bathroom....

I know your posts aren't in real time - did you install a Beaver Deceiver? I've seen them work at a site in Vermont (prevents a road from flooding), and a habitat restoration/environmental compliance consultant guy I know who does work for, um, let's say Big Concrete in western Washington installs them on their rural property adjacent to quarry operations.

I knocked dams down again yesterday.....

And the berkeleying mice are moving in. I can't find where they are getting in. I think there are way too many places.

This saw is a berkeleying beast too.

Still cleaning up the mess.

I did also get the firepit almost done. Apparently I cant count bricks. :homer:

And winterized the water. Its getting chilly. My low point drain seemed to work, and I did disconnect the lines from the pump too. Fingers crossed. The pumps are kind of expensive. My sink will still work if I use the old 5 gallon bucket, I hooked that to the "hot" side of the faucet.

Beaver is a good thing depending on your mindset.  Want to point out that you started this way before Stampieland.  I just wish my property had less oversight from the Men in Black.

Mine has 4 acres of wetlands/swamp.... I want to keep the water flowing across it vs just staying put. The beavers used to be way further east.

I've had my off grid place a long time, but honestly it's fallen into disrepair. My place is moving in the opposite direction than yours, and it's embarrassing. I've got some plans that may kick me back into gear, but I wouldn't start a thread without that happening!

Meanwhile, I'm enjoying yours!

I have 2 loads of rock cong today, one railroad ballast ( 2 1/4"-) and one 5/8 minus with fines for the driveway. I hope they can spread the bigger E36 M3. That stuff does not shovel.

70k lbs of gravel and the loader breaks on scoop #3.....

RR ballast sucks to shovel.

Driveway got spread pretty well, except where he slowed down to miss a tree.... It's a foot thick there.

Well I planned to build a little pergola next to the fire pit to stand under. I guess I'm a couple days late..... It's nuking snow. I'm the dot I tried to add to the left of leavenworth 🤣

All the materials are on my trailer.... Supposed to let up mid day, we will see how motivated I am.

This was 8pm last night. Another 8 or more over night.

20231201_204005.jpg

Added a little awning to the bathroom since the door always gets left open.... We will see how long it lasts. Just cheap plastic, but it was on sale for $30. And the door was open again this morning....
