That's cool!
So the radiator is IN the fire? How do you handle circulation? How do you regulate the temperature? Does it matter?

Yep! Rad is in the fire. I tried to just use convection last week, but I don't have enough rise/fall between the tub and fire. I added a little water pump this weekend.
Leaned the rad into the fire, when it was up to temp I stood it back. Up so it was a bit more out of it. Got up to 109,had to add some Cold water to get into it! Gate valve controls flow thru the rad, I was getting 115-120 at the outlet in the tub.
In reply to SV reX :
And why not?? Lol
It's cheap and amazing. Old cast iron rad, silicone hose (prob $ part) and a little pump and tub.
In reply to java230 :
Because the coldest it ever gets here is still tee shirt weather. It hasn't snowed in over 20 years. A bonfire to warm up a little bath water would probably give me heat stroke.
(Besides, the nearest radiator is probably 500 miles away!) 😂😂
In reply to java230 :
Modify that set up with some schedule 40 steel pipe and fittings near the radiator, that will allow you to put the radiator right in the fire pit and keep the silicon hose a bit away from the heat. You can then build the fire right on the radiator. Just don't lose flow, that would be bad. Love the ingenuity!

Yeah it's a thought! I use the fire pit as a fire pit too, so having it on the side is kinda advantageous. I do roll it over half on its side usually so the fire is a bit more under it.
Chipper was smoking last time we used it.... Definately blade change time. How close should I set the anvil? 2 business cards? It's a bitch to see down there, nut a huge gap now, but a little.
Gonna bring all the tools next week. I don't have the right allen key.
Also found some barbed wire wrapped around one of the blades
And this thing is great. And the 661 still berkeleys! I think I may get a shorter bar. 36" is a little silly some times.
Catching up a bit!
Got the blades changed. Chips much better now!
Look at the erosion from chips on the flywheel!
So much more brush.....
Not bad.
Well berkeley me sideways. Two more 100'+ trees came down, across the road..... I guess in lumberjacking this weekend.
Log splitter thread incoming.
So glad we have the big chipper! Wife and I got everything chipped. Except one little section we left as a "fence"
Wheelchair is awesome. May have overloaded it a bit.... About 6 rounds is max.
Lots to buck later.
Need to finish the stupid trailer so I can grab a splitter....
Put 9 sheets of 1/4" ply on the walls. A little more to do. Removed one mouse house and replaced the insulation. That was nasty.
Built more walkways in the swap and spent a bunch of time in the creek. It was hot AF.
Well. E36 M3. Brush mower down.
Maybe it was loose on the shaft?
And hot tub.....
May need some Heat shield or hard pipe.... Silicone is dead.
But I got a splitter!
Made a bit more wood! A couple big ass rounds.
Pile by the firepit is full.
And some extra.

LOL, we talked about using some steel pipe up the page a bit. You've got plenty of firewood for it!
Picked up a cheap snow blower. He didn't have the key. Real Cheap when you can't prove it runs.
That's fixed and it runs!
120v electric start. A little weird but I guess better than pulling when it's cold? I'll have to rig up a cord for it for winter.

My neighbor has that 120V electric start on his snow blower too, works a treat when it's 5 below and you need to clear the driveway! Beats pulling on it and you don't have to worry about a battery.
Why is everything up on stilts? Does it flood there? What do you do with the equipment to keep it out of the water?
Are you concerned about security from meth heads with all that great Craigslist-able stuff there now?
In reply to MiniDave :
It likely has something to do with snow. As an example the outhouses in Cypress Provincial Park in BC are about 12 feet high with stairs leading up to them ( that's what you see in summer). In winter you may walk across the snow and go straight in the door.
In reply to MiniDave :
I learned that most are 120v, I just have never had one before.
I bought it in stilts, I am sure it has flooded at some point, but not recently. Its a Treehouse kinda.
The creek is right behind the house there. It did overflow the bank a little ways down.
Meth heads are always an problem.... Everything is chained up or in the shipping container, but with a grinder everything is takeable.... Not sure what else to be done really. Gate is also chained closed.
In reply to Rons :
We dont get that much snow! I wish (kinda...). It was just built that way by the PO
Really enjoy reading the updates. You seem to have the right idea with wood and brush management. I know even my own suburban 1/3-acre lot, I'm constantly fighting trees/limbs/stumps. It's so easy to let that stuff pile up.
Recently I've been watching a lot of Youtube cabin/off grid content. Really makes me want my own "cabin in the woods." A few of my favorites: Wild Homestead, Cabin River Outdoors, and Jay Legere. Outdoor Boys has a series about an off grid homestead they bought from some scallywags. That place is an absolute mess, but it seems like Luke is committed to keeping it a mess still. Bush Radical has some decent content but he (and his wife) annoy me for reasons unknown to even myself.
In reply to Scotty Con Queso :
Thanks! We try, we are in a pretty high fire risk area, so at least keeping the areas around structures clear as best we can is kinda the goal.
I have not really watched much homestead stuff on YT, it comes up every once in awhile. I will have to check those ones out.
I have been tearing this down over and over and the little berkeleyers built it back bigger.....
Got some flashing done. I hate roll flashing.
Door cover done. Cheap Amazon special
Fan ban finally lifted.
Played with the old sled. Needs new battery. Will idle, but not Rev. I know this one is very voltage particular.
A little worried as zero smoke came out.

That's awesome
(I don't think I should do that in southern Alabama) 😂
Just to bust your chops, it's not "southern" Alabama. It's LA (Lower Alabama).
In reply to secretariata (Forum Supporter) :
I hate to not agree with you but I've always heard the western part of the Florida panhandle referred to as LA.
