I just read that the physical assault wasn't just taking one punch as was reported earlier, but lasted 30 seconds and resulted in the guy going to the hospital. I'm not a stickler for technicalities, and didn't really have the opinion that he should get canned for taking a swing at a guy, but now that I know that the assault went much further than that, and that there was a much longer period of verbal abuse, I have to agree that he had to go. I'm sad about it, but I commend the BBC for putting ethics above profits, because they are likely to lose a lot of money because of this.

So...

I agree with everything he just said.

Unbelievable.

This was obviously going to happen once it was revealed that he assaulted the producer lol

I don't blame the BBC at all. They put up with all of his shenanigans up until he assaulted someone. You do that in ANY job you are fired, he is no exemption

I agree as well. I'm bummed about it too, as this was the best season in a long time.

If I were May and Hammond, I would not do the show without him. They can all go on to other things together or apart, but if they keep going, it would be like Two and Half Men with Sheen gone. It's just a slow death at that point. If the BBC were to replace all three, they can revamp the show as they see fit.

I think that it comes from him being smart, an excellent writer and presenter, and going into detail about cars that previous TV journalists haven't. If he does host Top Gear, the BBC would have to replace May and Hammond with other presenters, IMO.

i saw a video of James May getting ambushed outside his house asking him how he felt about Jeremy being gone from the show.. he said it was unfortunate that a small incident blew up the way it did... when asked if he would be returning to Top Gear, he said that the show only works because of the 3 of them for reasons that most people don't understand, and that while he thinks Jeremy is a "knob", he rather enjoys working with him..

in other words, the 3 of them have something else planned and this was the perfect way to get out of doing a show they were all tired of doing.. personally, i think this whole thing was staged as a way to get off the show just as their contracts were going to expire: i can't be the only one that noticed all the references to quitting the show or finding different hosts or just being sick of doing the show in all the episodes that already aired, can i?

No doubt he's a great auto journalist, but he's at least as big of a dick as Clarkson (and I think he's also headed for media disaster) - the difference is that it's not part of Chris' media persona, although it does seep through at times.

I don't think it was planned or staged, and I really think Clarkson wished he hadn't done it. I think he is/was very stressed and unhappy with the show and he snapped and did something he regretted. I do believe that the three of them--especially Clarkson--wanted out of the show though. It had become tired, overdone, and a caricature of itself.

It has been brought to my attention that a fake account somehow ended up in my feed, must have been retweeted by someone and I didn't notice

I'll replace it with these bits of commentary:

And the only thing I've ever heard attributed to Piers Morgan that I consider sane.

I've heard from reliable sources that former NBA player and co-host of "the best damn sports show, period" and "the car show" Jon Salley has been tabbed as Clarkson's replacement.

So, contract not renewed is not the same as FIRED. Could he come back later? Say, if a season with a new cast tanks?

Just tossing out fodder for the masses...

BBC did what they needed to do to protect their assets from liability. Fully understood.

Lots of variables in what a 30 second assault where the victim is able to drive themselves to the ER and is treated for a busted lip might entail. It could have been a "girl-fight" where there was some slapping, hair-pulling, and a struggle where all the onlookers were hoping a few buttons might pop and a nekked hooter may show up (I know they said the producer didn't offer any retaliation). It could have been somebody being pushed to the ground, having their pants pulled down and an attempted sodomy (prison style). Wide range of options...

Maybe, just maybe, Hamster's love of 'merica infected Clarkson (or maybe JC's a closet 'merica lover where his past Ford GT might fit on the roadway), or they thought the audience level/pay rates would be better in the US, or the British Empire's taxation rates convinced them they should become the TG 'merica hosts (and US citizens) and they were plotting to escape which caused JC to snap in a moment of weakness and there will be a US version with the 3 mouseketeers...

Anyways, I'm glad we are killing cable next week so I don't have to watch the next season swirling around the bowl and refusing to be sucked down...

I don't know if I want to watch clarkson again.... He acted like a child. I'd be happy if he just faded away and I can remember the fun times I had watching TG in the 2002-2006 time frame when it was new and fresh and interesting... Instead of old and busted.
