Anyone here done anything like that? There's an opening locally and for some reason I haven't been able to put it out of my mind since I saw it.

Yeah, saw that some months ago. Hair raising, but it's South Africa. Anyone with experience domestically?

Curious too, I did a quick search and zip recruiter says $48k in MO ($23/hr)
Do it! I'm sure to make the big money you gotta move into management.
Jokingly, I ask do this job always thinking of how to pull off a big heist?
Seems like it would be stressful for the level of pay. Regular day route truck drivers make more money and very few people are robbing trucks full of groceries.
I'm thinking repo man. There is a guy that has a YouTube channel, I think he's in Cleveland, that posts videos of his repo's. This guy is quick.

If anyone does decide to do that, have a berkeleying exit plan first. Don't be like the guy in Pittsburgh 15 or so years ago who robbed the truck then called his girlfriend asking about Canada's extradition policy. He lasted longer on the run than I expected, they found him in a crack house in Florida like 9 months later, and then he got royally berkeleyed at sentencing, like way more than if they'd caught him day one.

Man, that guy would be great to have around for the shiny happy people who block the pumps forever!
I had a co-worker that did it once. He said it was a rough job because it has a high turnover rate. Due to that the company just doesn't give a crap about you because you might leave next week.
any job that requires you to be armed and ready to take a life shouldn't be handled the way it is (in his experience).

Oh look. Finally a topic I'm an expert with. I worked for Garda Armored then Brinks then Garda Armored again. Total of about 11 years. I left Garda in 2016 for a job in IT because I was capped at my position at under $15 an hour for the foreseeable future. I liked the job, I was good at it. I've slept on more cash money (inside the truck on long drives) than most people will see in their lifetime. Recently both companies shifted to a lot of one person trucks in safer areas to save labor costs. Anyway, I worked all over Missouri and into Oklahoma and Arkansas so only the boring flyover states. It's fine, it's safe, everybody thinks you're a walking joke and every guys asks you to trade trucks with him. Haha. Although the beer truck was tempting. It's not a job for old people anymore. Since they got rid of two position trucks, you'll do everything. Coin bags weigh between 30 and 50 pounds depending on denomination but at least you get a hand truck to haul them in and out of banks. What do you want to know?

Well, they finally contacted me about my application and we're supposed to do a video interview tonight. In light of the fact I found out two weeks ago my current employer (a credit union) is merging with another later this year and I have no way of knowing whether my current position will translate into the new organization, this may be providential timing.

Beggars can't be choosers...
My uncle does it, rides shotgun, in Hawaii as a retirement gig. Went shooting in caldera gun range with him a couple years ago just before he requalled pistols.
He loves it.
Have an acquaintance who did this his whole working life. Boring would be the best way to describe the job and it was shift work. He joked about the money he slept on.
It was a job that allowed him to live a comfortable middle class life, support a family and it came with a retirement package. Not so sure the pay rate today will cover that. $23/hr is more like "covering rent in mom's basement and on-line video subscription fees".
School bus drivers are in high demand and start at &25/hr. here, and they provide CDL-P training.
Fewer people shooting at you. =~ )
Did the video interview when I got home from work. I thought it went well, but historically I suck at interviews so there's no there's no reason to expect otherwise, yet. I'll have to go back to my thread about workboots if I get the job...

But 10,000,000X more whiny, shiny happy people, brats. I think I'd rather have people shooting at me. Less chance I go to jail for smacking a kid.
A buddy started a small armoured-car company and ran it for a while. It made money, but not as much as he had hoped, so he sold it. I did hear the occasional story, like the one about the Brinks guy who was in the back when the truck was ambushed. The bad guys invited him to come out, but he was 100% convinced he was absolutely invulnerable inside his box. Eventually they asked if he would at least lie down while they put a couple of rounds through the upper part of the vehicle. He did; they did; he came out. Try not to work with that guy.
