The new regal gs is impressing me more with each new bit of news that creeps out.

It's also worth mentioning that, with 135 horsepower per liter, the new boosted Ecotec boasts the highest specific power output of any engine in GM's history. It's also the most power-dense rating the SAE has ever officially recognized. That's impressive stuff.

270 shouldn't be too bad, since they were getting 700+ out of boosted ecotecs 10 years ago.
Wonder if there will be a GNX?
are those hood vents I spy?

The portholes just keep moving up.
well.. they might be useful up there
This is not your father's Buick
The more I see that car, the more I like it.
Moar European GM, GM!
If I was in the market for that type of vehicle, that Buick would get a very serious look from me.
I love the styling and all.

My father's Buick was a RWD, turbocharged, mean, beast of a car:
His father's Buick was also a RWD, Big-Block, mean beast of a car:
And his father's Buick was a RWD, stylish, and FAST beast of a car:
(I don't think anyone in my family has ever owned a Buick, I was just illustrating that Buick actually has a long and storied performance car heritage.)
As awesome as the performance heritage of the brand may be, the last cool Buick was in 1987, and the targeted crowd for the new Regal was in diapers at that point in time.
I'd personally be all over a 65 Riv. Mmmmmm.

My first ever car trip was in a Buick, coming home from the maternity ward; Dad loved really loved those portholes.
Except for the 70-72 GS models, I never even considered owning one.
Until now.......
The new one looks incredible!

Awesome! You totally Chris V'd them!
Joey
I sat in the new one at the auto show and the wife and I both really liked it. We may ve to wait a bit longer for a new car and get one.
Its nice to see that GM got something out of their time owning SAAB.
What did that have to do with SAAB? I thought that car was from the Vauxhall/Opel folks?
Still an old person going to church nameplate with that styling, IMO. As for power, I see ricer math is kicking in again.
Turbocharging experience.
EcotecThe Ecotec name was adopted in 2000 for the new generation of Family II engines. The name was already used for the Opel GM Family II engine, Family 1 and Family 0 ranges. GM intends this new Ecotec to become its global 4-cylinder, and it has already fully replaced their OHV I4 line.
The Ecotec Family II is a DOHC 4-valve design with an aluminum block and head (L850 for 86 mm bore applications, and L880 for 88 mm bore), designed for displacements from 1.8 to 2.4 L. It was developed by an international team of engineers and technicians from Opel's International Technical Development Center in Rüsselsheim, Germany, GM Powertrain in Pontiac, Michigan, and Saab in Trollhättan, Sweden. Much of the development work on this project was carried out by Lotus Engineering, Hethel, United Kingdom. The engine uses aluminum pistons and cast iron cylinder liners. Vibration is reduced with twin balance shafts.
The current Ecotec line is manufactured in Tonawanda, New York and Kaiserslautern, Germany. Until the discontinuation of Saturn, it was also produced at a plant in Spring Hill, Tennessee.

How so? GM has made 1500+ HP Ecotec Turbo's, so a production 270HP should be a walk in the park. Heck, didn't the GM Power Pack (from the dealer post-sale) for the Cobalt SS Turbo/Sky Redline/Solstice GXP make 300HP?
Please define "power-dense rating". Power per weight??
Power per litre. It's ricer math.
Yes, there was a dealer kit to get 315hp from that motor.
hp/l is ricer math
hp/lb is racer math
This motor does well with both.

Never got to drive the GNX, but got to drive a college buddy's Regal T-Type on a road trip. Might have been the first time I ever said, "..I can't believe this is an American car!" The suspension & brakes on that car were a lot better than I expected.
