Over these past few years, as gas prices rose, I sort of lost the appreciation of driving just for the sake of it. I of course loved getting behind the wheel, but always needed a destination.

A few weeks back, my commute went from an hour each way to ten minutes each way. I am in between semesters at school. My work schedule gave me a few consecutive days off. I got the itch.

I am finally getting reacquainted with driving for the sake of it, with no destination in mind. I have taken a few over these last few days, just going on some unexplored back roads that surround town. Regardless of the time of day, whether it has been 90 degrees at 3 pm or 70 at 2 am, I have gone with the AC off and windows and sunroof open. Among my peers, it seems like I am the only one who ever suggests "going for a ride."

I hear you Mitchell. My commute is 7-8 minutes in heavy traffic.

I know exactly what you're talking about. When I was in college and was home on break I'd end up driving on some back roads to try and get lost and I'd usually recognize a hwy sooner or later. But now that I'm done with college and have a full time job, I dont go on those voyages anymore. Except, now I get sick of driving 30 miles down hwy 41 so I find different county trunk roads to make it home. I'd rather go 55 mph on an empty 2 lane road than 65 mph on a packed 4 lane highway. (the speeds were adjusted for lawfulness )
