You would think that someone who spent the last 16 years in the collectible automobile world would have proper insurance on their own cars. Ummm....yeah....

Well, I finally moved my two old cars to American Collectors Insurance and away from the lizard. The best part? I now have stated value coverage on both cars for the SAME PRICE I was paying Geico for liability only. I don't know why I put this off so long. The process was stupid simple, just sent the insurance compancy photos of my cars and have a covered parking place for both of them. No problem.

Go get real insurance, GO NOW, GET TO THE CHOPPAA!!!!!

Great! You'll want to double check if you have stated value or agreed value. They are quite different. In agreed value policy, you get the amount you and the insurance company agreed the car is worth before the policy was taken out. In stated value, you tell them what you feel the car is worth, but it does not bind them to pay you that amount. Be sure you know what you have.

I've been using American Collectors for my old cars for many years now, it's a lot cheaper than regular insurance. Fortunately I've never had to make a claim, but they have a good reputation for being good to work with if something does happen.

I've had American Collectors since '99. Have been very happy with them. Had a claim once and was a pleasant experience.

Any limitations with these guys?

I was unimpressed by the limitations hargerty set forth.

Im currently fully insured on the classics through allstate, but know it ain't enough.

American Collectors has different mileage limits, depending on your policy - 2500, 5000 or 7500 miles/year. Other companies have similar limits.

I have Hagerty on my Opel GT. Yeah, have to have a garage and another car as a daily. The limitations don't really bother me as I don't really want to use the car for what is limited anyway. Limited towing is included (distance limited).

Generally speaking, yes, you can save a ton of money (and get better coverage) with collector car insurance.

Thanks for the reminder, I really need to move my Galant VR4 to a collectors policy. I'm wasting my money with full coverage through my existing policy, it would be a fight to get a fraction of what is worth.

that's the same thing with my CRX … I would get completely raped by my present co. if something happened to it on the highway …

I don't drive it anywhere except to and from a-x's … I tow it to and from track events … but it still gets ~ 7000 miles a yr
