When you lose 3 cars in a divorce, and you still have 4.
you check CL for free washers and dryers regardless of operating condition in order to do custom bodywork #grmthings
Realizing your garage (and hall closet) holds a grand total of 28 wheels and tires not attached to vehicles.
You spot a RHD Capri across a busy highway. You go out of your way to cross it, all the while praying he doesn't leave. You then spend the next half hour talking shop with a total stranger about an obscure 80s import.
You ran out of room in the garage and shed so you now have most of a motorcycle in the attic. #justgrmthings
I bought tires that cost almost half what I paid for the car.
(but of course the tires were on sale so I didn't actually pay that much)#justGRMthings

Ive completed car repairs using leftover house parts. My dad had his own business installing garage doors. I dont think ive ever had a vehicle that didnt have garage door parts on it.

The tires on my daily cost more than the car.
I also took it (Montero) on a road trip from Ohio to TX/NM/CO and back and the gas cost more than the purchase price of the car.
You think nothing of flying to another part of the country to purchase a car sight unseen and drive it a few thousand miles. And, your significant other is so used to it, that they think it's a good idea too!
When your non-GRM friends try to talk to you about cars, they ask you what supercar you would buy if you had the money. You answer with a list of 10 cheaper cars, a lift, a welder, and the entry fees for 5 years of cheap racing that add up to the price of the super car.
Auto manufacturers spend millions of dollars getting their cars to ride/drive/behave a certain way so clearly you can "improve it" for $50. And sometimes you actually can!
Buying a high mileage car that's been taken care of mechanically and has no rust always seems like a better idea than buying a low mileage car with no history. Likewise, you probably know which beaters can survive with just oil, brakes and other general maintenance.
When visiting a relative you discover a car stashed on the property, then remember it is yours and that you stashed it there because you ran out of room at your own place.
When it's easier to switch dds instead of changing a tire. Alternatively, when the tires for the fast car cost more than your last....5 beaters. Combined.

Man I switch DDs based on weather and amount of gas in the tank.
