No matter where I am, if I check CL there are always plenty of XJS for sale. They couldn't have sold that many of them could they? I mean they seem to outnumber many cars from the same era that they had to sell multiple thousands more copies of.

On my local and nearby areas there are 14 XJS compared to 10 third gen Firebirds. They had to sell at least more than twice as many third gens didn't they?

Well. The way I see it, it could be one of two options. Either owners of XJS's really want to get rid of them for a reason and Firebird owners want to keep their Firebirds. Or used XJS's are good enough for the used market while the Firebirds either sit and rot or go to the junkyard. I'll leave it to you to decide which.

Or people have a POS XJS and think "Man, that's a Jaguar. It's worth a fortune..." and don't junk it, unlike the GM products.

Europas have the same problem. People will let them return to the earth thinking they are worth a lot just because it says (or probably said) "Lotus" on it. Many documented cases of one sitting out in a field for decades (AKA "Free Range Europa," that is, as they are found in the wild). Someone will go up and ask them about it and they will want ten large, or more, or it's not for sale at any price because "it's priceless." On a $500 car, and that's being generous.

They seem to run the full spectrum from $500 parts cars all the way to crack pipe pricing.

It just blows me away how many seem to be available at any given time.

I assumed their longevity is mostly because It's hard to rust away or suffer collision damage in a service bay.

…and I hear they get phenomenal mileage while on a flatbed.
