Well that's better than waking up in the morning to see that your neighborhood was subjected to a late night game of "Mailbox Baseball".
Wait, that's not any better.
My neighbor got nailed by a drunk driver at 10:00 am on a Sunday Morning a while back. Unbelievable! No injuries, just the loss of one car and a deportation of an illegal mexican. It's never too early to be drunk, but just stay put when you do it and leave the power tools alone.
Once, I've started drinking before the sun came up. Of course that was the day that ESPN Game Day was in Madison and I was in college. And there was no driving involved.
Been there done that. There was also a Maple tree in between the mailboxes. The drunk didn't make it much further after that but damn it was loud.

but i'm sure either would be great against baseball bats...
Do you know for sure she was drunk and not just texting?
When my folks lived in the outskirts of their small town I don't think they ever "lost" a mailbox....really strange.

My guess is drunk. Its hard to hit two when you're just being stupid. But hey, stupid is as stupid does.

How do you fall asleep at the wheel in a neighborhood?
It appears in some jurisdictions a mega mailbox can get you sued if someone hurts themselves even if they are drunk. PI lawyers in action again.
Daytime drinking: I know someone who's usually pretty well snockered by 11AM at least 3 days a week.
Shortly after moving back to Pennsylvania we found our mailbox broken in half laying on the neighbors lawn across the street. The fact that their house had also been paintballed led me to believe the one behind the prank can't read numbers on a mailbox.
Put it back together with a hose clamp and shoved in back in the ground, hasn't been hit since.
I was a substitute teacher at the school down the street from me. My mailbox was always getting vandalized after I had to write up any kid that walked by my house. Never caught the kids doing it, but I'm pretty sure it was the same group of kids. I stopped caring after I replaced the mailbox with a plastic box that cost less than $10. Oddly enough, they haven't touched the cheapie box, either.
My mailbox is on a pressure treated 6x6 and there is more below ground than exposed. I was considerate enough to keep it the same distance off the road as the utility pole 5 feet further down the road. If you tap either, there's gonna be more than paint left behind !
This is based on an incident where a vehicle clipped my neihbors car, took down his mailbox, severed a utility pole, came through the yard, clobbered my '84chev p/u ( turning it 90 degrees ) and then removed some bark from the tree tha Jesus Christ himself planted in the other side of my yard !
My Brother thought is was mighty strange that I parked my truck sideways in the driveway !
I've been lectured that anything stiffer than a papier mache mailbox post will harm "The Children", but when the snowplow goes by hurling wet snow that has the specific gravity of concrete, goddammit, I want there to be a mailbox standing for my GRM subscription !

typical HS Sr... massive sleep deprivation... up at 6am to get to school on time, practice after school, gym after practice, homework, bed by 3 or 4a... back up for another round at 6a... I know the kid was busy... and I know most of the sleep I managed to get my sr year was in class... lol

yup... I know Panama (and i'm sure many other 3rd world countries and likely not so 3rd world countries) only have PO boxes for mail delivery...
with the problems the idiots at USPS are having i'm surprised they haven't gone that route... they can charge for the boxes, get rid of tons of the delivery guys (starting pay $19/hr... know my uncle made MUCH more then that when he retired from the USPS)
Lucky you, the cops caught her and you have a chance of getting paid for the damage.
I Lost several hundred feet of fencing to a blonde in a Jeep. The police refused to respond to the call, so the little witch got away with leaving me the mess and the cost.
I gave my mailman a laugh today.. was setting up a new box when he came by.. so I just held it out for him.
As for PO boxes only.. Imagine how big the post office would have to be to handle all the boxes in any NJ town

I actually lived in a PO Box only town in NJ...the whole post office was in a trailer. Yeah, it was a small town.

If you work 3rd shift that is just a late night out.
