So I drop my work van off yesterday at the shop I've been taking my van to for 2 years now. I needed brakes and some other petty crap fixed before I start class next week.
Shop owner calls me this morning and tells me the Fleet Card will not approve the work and won't let him work on my van. They have all his information, but for some reason is not approved to do work over $100. Wonderful. So now, I have to take my van to an "approved" shop, which the nearest one is 45 minutes away.
I have to go back to work tomorrow and have to wait 3 more weeks before I can get my van fixed. I'm going to complain to my sup, but it won't do anything.

Who is the fleet supplier? We have NEVER had that happen with any of the fleet companies.
Who pays, you or work?
Work = so what.
You = get another mechanic (you).
Maybe that was crass, sorry, but it's a system. Work with it.

Well of course work pays for it.
BUT, my issue is that now it's been made totally inconvenient to myself to get my van to a shop for repairs. My wife and I are currently living barely paycheck to paycheck and use the gas in my personal vehicle for a chase vehicle to drive two 60 mile round trips just to drop off and pick up my van is not a good thing.
My sup did tell me today that there is the Ford dealer in the next town that will work on my GMC, so I still need to wait almost 3 weeks before I can take it in.

It won't help you right now, but you can almost certainly write that off as a business expense on your taxes.

Take the van to the place 60 miles away, then take a cab to the office. Tell the cabbie to go see the fleet manager.
I was getting taken advantage of by work once, and did something similar. It stopped the situation REAL QUICK. I don't want to hijack so I wont go into detail unless someone wants me to.

Have it towed. Sometimes fleet vehicles break down.

+1. do not let work force you to use your personal vehicle to do anything.
one of the most important things to know is that it's quite possible that your car isn't as covered if you are doing work related things with it. We are told that all the time.
Don't burden your wife for work problems. Burden work.
