I was most couroius what the vehicle of choice would be but it seems the author skipped that detail.
I think I want something like this for it. Once I get to Alaska I might as well put it on a boat across to Russia and drive down the other side.
Buddy of mine bought a crunched C5 vette this spring, put the body back together and drove it 7,500 miles or so around the country (epic road trip). Then sold the car at a profit. He said it's the perfect road trip car for 2.

Duh.

Any of these:
I am thinking the Maxima or either of the Bonnes
I'm planning out something similar to this. Except skipping the Alaska part. I've never been to any of the national parks and natural wonders this country has to offer, so I plan on flying into Seattle, picking up something built before 1980 (Vega Stationwagon is where I'm leaning) and driving it back across America.
I plan on driving down to see Crater Lake, drive through the Redwoods and stop at Yosemite, next would be the Grand Canyon, then Yellowstone, Mt. Rushmoore, etc..
Probably take about a month off to do all this, so we could take our time, and not feel rushed.

Do it. Our National Parks are fantastic. We just spent a day at the Grand Canyon and having grown up on the east coast there I could not imagine the scale of it. The scenery was breathtaking. Once things get sorted out we are planing another trip to pick up a car out there and drive back. Either I will finally get a truck for the compound or a small rust free Japanese car I can resell.
My family recently did a national park road trip. Bryce National park to Zion National Park, then up to Yellowstone, and back down through Grand Titons. Absolutely incredible scenery. Although I wish we did the Big 5 parks in Utah rather than driving all the way to Yellowstone.
Zion and Bryce had the most incredible scenery I have ever scene. Couldn't recommend them more.
