So, I helped a buddy put an LS3 into an FD RX7, we finished it up last summer. The thing runs great and sounds even better. Plus it's that beautiful yellow color (I'll post pics tomorrow). So, he gets invited to the Eyes on Design show that was held today. Yeah, rubbing elbows with people that have more money in their couch cushions than I make in a year, taking pics of Pierce Arrows, Hispano Suizas, and pre-war Bugattis. A dream come true for sure! Well, I don't really care about the rich people, but their cars are GREAT!
I blew it off. My mom needs to go out of town in a few weeks so I spent the day learning how to handle the daily needs of my bed-ridden father. I've taken care of him many, many times in the past, but he had a turn for the worse a while back so now there are feeding tubes and other strange contraptions I had to learn about.
I have a brother that lives a few miles away and he stops by every few years, whether he needs to or not so I'm the one that helps mom and dad. Anyway, I guess I'm feeling kinda bummed about missing the Eyes on Design and figured I'd whine to folks that get it. Also, I'm sure you all would do the same thing so I'm not looking for atta-boys or anything, just someone who gets it.

They do the show every year. You'll have another chance to go. It's open to the public.

Everyone would be a decent person if it was easy. At the end of the day, you're going to have a much deeper satisfaction by being a good guy.

Yeah I know. But being there with a car you slaved over and left blood in the pinchwelds is special. But, I don't regret it.

Meh, so you missed a competitive parking event to take care of your dad - good on ya. Don't give it another thought. No shortage of car shows later.

My father in law is stuck in a wheelchair after a brain tumor the size of an orange last year. He's good for maybe an hour by himself, but is too weak to stand, wheel around, or get himself to the bathroom. He lives nearly an hour away... the wife and I get it.

Good on you for taking care of the old man.

Even if you don't feel all that "special" for spending this Father's Day with your Dad intead of being somewhere's else....in time, you will be glad you did it. (And even if he doesn't/didn't show it....he was glad you did too.)

FWIW, I have 4 sisters and 2 brothers and it's my Mom who is on the downward slope of her life. I see my Mom more often than my brother does. I live 1100 miles from my folks...my brother? About 250 miles, and he makes a big deal out it every time he manages to spend a few hours with her.

Didn't understand that you were taking a car there, thought you were spectating.

Good on you for helping. I know what its like--my great aunt is in an "independent living" facility, basically an apartment where they check to make sure she is out of bed in the morning and in bed at night with a meal provided in the dining room once a day. But she still needs help often. The folks that live in the area (closer than 4 hours away) are my cousin, who has 5 kids aged 4-12, and my mother, who has 3 grown children. I help whenever I'm home, but it gets harder every time. Since she has gotten Parkinsons, and it gets worse every time, she just gets meaner and meaner.
